Once he'd helped everyone off the ground and made sure they didn't need any more assistance, he was about to take his leave when a single word caught his attention. Murdered. Eric blinked, not having been ready to recieve any such news, especially with the room buzzing as loud has it had been, the fact everyone had gone silent for the last word only strengthened the seriousness it held. Who'd been murdered? Where? There were far too many questions and until he could see it with his own eyes he would not be satisfied. His attention, next, was drawn to a young girl who was going off on a monologue. Certainly she wasn't winning any awards for her performance, and her words simply made her seem suspect. Still, without evidence, there was no way to pin her to the crime. More likely than not she was simply insane, an attention seeker using the wrong event and words to capture the attention of everyone in the room... and on the off-chance she meant what she was saying, she wouldn't be the first girl he met today like this.
His thoughts were interrupted by the boy he'd just helped up his eyes looking like he was about to take off running toward the crime scene. Eric put a hand on his shoulder, grabbing him and stopping him in place. "There are too many people here who wish to inspect the crime scene. If everyone were to charge in evidence may be moved and tampered with. While it's inappropriate to simply charge in there right now, we need to ensure no one leaves the estate amid this confusion. If you wish to help, keep an eye on the front door. I'll head to the maid and ensure no one tries to get to the crime scene." Eric knew that it was possible if not very probable this boy had been an accomplice in these events. Still, he had no choice but to rely on at least one person, and going off of first impressions alone Eric was fairly certain he could trust him to this task. There was another boy who'd joined them who'd proposed to let others handle it. "I agree. At least I would normally. While there is a security force on the estate, it is light." He implied there simply weren't enough of them to continue their patrols while carrying out a full blown investigation. He looked back to the lady, it would be in poor taste to simply leave her here like this.
"I'm sorry," he gave her a short bow, "It seems there is always work to be done. If you wish, there is a washroom in the direction I'm heading. There should be enough time to get yourself sorted before too much else happens. It is down the hall over there third door to the left if memory serves." There was enough time, or so he believed, for her to clean up. It was unsightly for a lady to present herself as such. With that, he made his way promptly to the maid and stood next to her in front of the hallway he'd indicated. He began comforting the woman while updating himself on the situation at hand.

When the maid came running out, Valeria raised an eyebrow. She kind of stood out, to say the least. Her eyes widened, however, when she revealed that the host of the party had been murdered. Of all the bullshit luck. Sure, she had been hoping for something a little more exciting to happen, but this was not what she had in mind. Her mind raced as the news finally sunk in, and she watched as everyone else responded to it in their own way. This wasn't good though. If the killer was still here, then she was in a bad position. Despite wanting to, she chose not to bring any weapons with her; a choice that seems to have bitten her in the ass.
Everyone seemed to be going off to investigate, and Valeria went straight to the maid who just told everyone about the murder. "I'm Valeria Saren, captain of the Ylissean guard. Answer me as best as you can. How was he killed? And did you notice anything out of the ordinary before you found him. Also, do you have any idea who would want him dead? We'll need any lead we can get if we're to find his killer." Valeria had a stern look on her face. As much as she wanted to give her a chance to recover from the shock, she didn't have time for that. Every seconds counts, especially if the killer was among them.

[attr="class","infobig"]INFORMATION [attr="class","infosmall"]Here's where you're going. [attr="class","info"]NOTE: If your name has not shown up here, this is because you did not post or you did not come and talk to me. If you PM me, I'll give you a group to go to. All of you can establish a post order amongst yourselves. You will be given 24 hours after the person before you posts to post yourself. After that, you will be skipped in the order. If you are skipped twice during the thread, I will NPC you out of the thread, and seeing as there is risk to life and limb in these threads, the results might not be pleasant. It all depends on my trusty dice that I use to get random results. Remember to tag Sifr in your posts as well so I know when you post and I can post my own stuff! Shiida for a moment stood stock still, her husband's children standing with close to the same expression. The servants panicked; some started to even cry, a few even wailed. Most of the whispers rung the same; who would kill such a great man? Who would be so brazen to strike an old man in his later years? Did this have anything to do with the odd sounds that came from the basement at times? What would happen to them all now that the Lord was dead? How would they feed their families? Would Shiida still keep them as staff?
But while the Lady froze, the two boys acted. Lord Barst shot a look at his brother and it seemed the two of them had the same thought. They both ran up the stairs with their hands withdrawing their swords for protection, and Shiida regained her composure. She followed them both up the stairs, and got to the top right as Castor started to jiggle the door handle. He shook it roughly for a few seconds before rounding on the maid.
“Did you lock the door? DID YOU LOCK THE DOOR!” Castor snapped, much to the surprise of Barst. He himself tried the door while Shiida tried to calm him.
“Castor, please, not so loud!” Shiida grimaced and gripped her arm, then walked towards the balcony where her husband had given his speech only hours earlier. She looked down upon the crowd, puffy eyed and desperate, and looked to each one in the eyes.
“The festivities are complete, but we have a problem. I would ask those that seek to make some Bullion stay in the ballroom. The rest of you may exit into one of the sitting rooms and will be asked to remain until the killer is found.”
Barst walked forward. “Shiida, it could be any one of them, we cannot trust anyone to help us-”
“We can, for the right price.” Shiida looked straight ahead and uttered her words coldly to her adopted son. “I ask you all to remain in the building for the next few hours. Servants will guide you and make sure that you are comfortable. Leave.”
Party goers started to file out in a hoard, most whispering amongst themselves. Some of the whispers were about who could possibly kill Wrys, others were about the foolish comments of the Lord Barst. More were about how suspicious that golddigging wife of Wrys looked at the moment, with her face of bravery. Was it fake? What about that maid, what was he doing in the Lord's chambers? Shiida stood on the balcony and watched them file out, bearing a stiff upper lip as they did. When only about forty remained, she took a deep breath and continued.
“My lord husband is dead, and the passage to his body is blocked. I would not normally ask the aid of strangers, but I have no choice. The murderer is very likely still in the building, and he... or she... are the only individuals with easy access to the upper floors. I can only hold faith that the promise of Bullion will be enough to whet your blades.” She looked grim, and even coldly angry, as she spoke the next part.
“I want the murderer found. I want him brought to me. I want to look into the eyes of someone who would be so cold hearted to kill such a generous man. If you can't bring him back alive however, no harm lost. I don't want there to be any more loss of life tonight.” She pointed to the East Wing doors.
“I will be leading a group through the East Wing to the third floor. A group will go with Barst and Castor through the West Wing-” she pointed at the door, “- and investigating a passage we use in the case of emergencies. Our head maid, Emelia will be leading a group through the kitchens. In the kitchens there is a dumbwaiter that can be used to access the second floor. My group and the group that goes to the kitchens should be able to corner the murderer that way if they're still on the upper floors. I need a fourth to volunteer to go into the study without a guide.”
Not long after, the groups were split, and everyone was off to investigate. welcome to the harvest festival. happy hallow's end. |
