• Born to the Eldrich Duchy, great expectations were placed on him the moment he was concieved being the first and only child.
• Eric's early life consisted of routine, schedule, and rigorous training. He had been born only a short 5 years after the start of the Second Great War against Plegia and tensions still ran high. The death of the last exalt had left Ylisse in a state of transition. The families, since, have been feuding for the right to exalt and Eric's own name has cropped up more than once... not that he wishes for such a position. Even as a child he knew exalt was far beyond what he was capable of and only wished to serve his people to the best of his abilities. Even so, he had no say in what his parents thought and often he was boasted of for his excellence in his studies.
• As the years pressed on Eric's claim as Exalt hadn't diminished, nor had the tension between Plegia and Ylisse. Every month there was word of raids from Plegia on small villages within Ylisse. Some of the attacks had even been close to the estate where he lived near the capital. none of the attacks had lasted very long and the soldiers had retreated as quickly as they had invaded, damage to the villages were quite substantial even for the short time the attacks had taken place. It was Eric that proposed to take responsibility for the outlaying villages beyond the capital's reach... The least defended. With the support of his father, he went through the process of traveling to the outlaying villages to organize militia and supplement with mercenaries the family had hired. It was a quick fix that would both take some of the strain off of Ylisse's military and provide a stable foundation for Eric to make a name of his own. There simply weren't enough soldiers and mercenaries to be everywhere within the Halidom at once and every man helped.
• As the years went on, Eric's involvement in Ylisse's current affairs grew as did his experience in handling the troubles within the Eldrich's territory. Though all the villages couldn't be covered at once, the outermost villages had taken priority as stations for mercenary groups and militia. The duchy's own personal force remained in the barracks near the estate while a small group, lead by Eric himself, would take tours through the duchy once a month on the side despite his parents. The field is no place for a nobleman such as himself? How was he supposed to assess the situation appropriately if he was not there? He couldn't understand how his parents could separate themselves so fully from what was going on, why they didn't want to think about it. How was anything supposed to get better if they ignored everything.
• Though not in title, Eric by all means was recognized as the heir to the Eldrich Dukedom by his nineteenth birthday. While his father was in charge of everything else, the defense of the duchy lay in Eric's hands as he had proven to be a strategical mind both fortifying key village's defenses making key roads difficult to bypass without being spotted as well as managing funds to make everything happen effectively. One could not rule on military alone, but Eric could tell the world was changing for the worse and that a military mind may not be the worst thing to develop... especially in times like these.
