it doesn't take jehiel long at all to figure out what has happened to his dragonstone, but he's not terribly concerned. the taguel would be relatively easy to identify with those ears and she couldn't have gotten far without the beaststone in jehiel's posession. all the same, he keeps a careful eye out for bandits, cutpurses, and other scoundrels who would relieve him of what little he has left. there are certain postures and scents to watch out for, jehiel knows. the rest blurs in an assortement of earthly colors and even earthlier smells. sometimes he catches the tang of a dried pepper rack or a cut of honeydew. he takes care not to be hypnotized by the marketplace that draws thousands of visitors every year, as if they were all on a pilgrimage. even if he misses her today, he can wait. the taguel will return. a beaststone is not nearly as easily replaceable as a sword. suna | I'm thinking we should ride To a place that we don't know |

It was time for Suna to leave. It was really, really time for Suna to leave. Grima be damned, why did she have to run into people so much? Suna really hadn't managed to forgive herself for tripping over that poor woman, and then to walk face first into a mysterious looking man, making a complete mess of the papers she was carrying and even dropping her beaststone? It was terrible, in fact. At least the encounter was a short one, after the initial mumbled sorries and rush to get all of her items back.
She hadn't quite noticed that the stone she picked up was the wrong color and texture to be a beaststone.
Walking into the thrall of people oddly gave Suna some sort of relief rather than anxiety as it usually did - then, she could forget the mortifying experience and just act Normal. As normal as she could ever get, at least...
A strong scent, like spices - like honeydew, actually, drew Suna's nose, and she soon sought out the scent, almost running into someone again. excuse me, she mumbled as she moved around him, her eyes downcast, continuing in the direction of the honeydew - a horrible part of her recognized that man, but she wasn't about to go say hi, remember that time we ran into each other earlier? wasn't that just a riot? especially considering she had run into the crowds to ditch the very person. If she were lucky, he'd let her go. If she were unlucky, maybe she could grab her beaststone out of her bag and beat an even faster retreat than normal.

jehiel sees no need to dance around the issue, especially not when they clearly have business with each other. he puts a hand on her shoulder before the crowd carries her away again. while he doesn't mind waiting, he also doesn't enjoy going around in circles. just being alive felt like that, sometimes. he didn't need to add more of that kind of rhythmic chaos in his life. "you have something of mine, and i have something of yours." he really doesn't mince words. "we should trade."suna | I'm thinking we should ride To a place that we don't know |

Of the many things that Suna was not a fan of (among these being carrots, being scared out of her wits, and tripping over people), 'being touched' had to be one of the biggest. She instantly jerked her shoulder away from Jehiel and out of his grasp, backing away from him with a warning, don't touch me! though it was hardly... threatening. In fact, she sounded more upset than angry.
He spoke about her having something of his, and - well, that did it. This guy was crazy. i don't know what you're talking about, she mumbled, refusing to meet the man's gaze, and even began to fish around in her bag for her beaststone. Not to attack, of course - but to run the hell away, because who wouldn't? She backed up again, defensively, and got her fingers around her beaststone... and...
and...
...
nothing happened.
Wait, what? Suna blinked, then pulled the brown rock out into the light - except it wasn't a brown rock at all. It was a stone that she had never seen the likes of before - a dull, green thing the likes of which she had never seen before. This was not her beautiful beaststone. wh... at...? her confusion was palpable - her brows pulled together, almost comically - she looked like she might cry. When did her beaststone become green? Was this even her beaststone at all?? How did this -...
In an instant, her attention snapped back to Jehiel, and she acted like one with a truly honed 'flight' skill. It took her but a moment to stuff the dragonstone away in her bag and turn, bounding off in a randomly chosen direction away from the man. She could figure out the intricacies of a green beaststone later - it wasn't like she was slow in her regular form!

jehiel racks his brains to figure out what could have triggered her reaction. he recalls a taguel genocide. right. that would make anyone skittish, wouldn't it? he recalls that he had a phase like that too a few thousand years back. jehiel would have apologized, had the girl remained in one place. he's a manakete in human form. the girl is a taguel with bunny ears. jehiel doesn't even have to try to imagine who was going to win a race between the two. she'll figure it out eventually. of that, jehiel was pretty sure. he just has to wait. the girl would never find him if he wandered about, though. jehiel decides to buy a honeydew and wait in the same spot, munching on the fruit skin and all. nobody knows patience like a manakete. suna | I'm thinking we should ride To a place that we don't know |

It took several hours for Suna to cautiously return. And, you know what? She didn't even 'figure it out' - after several tries to transform with her strange green beaststone, she settled back into wandering, disappointed, sure, but not crushed - maybe this phenomena could be studied? What caused it? Why did it change?
The sun was dipping closer to the horizon when Suna decided that she still wanted to check out that honeydew. Surely that man left by now, hours after the fact. Nobody would be crazy enough to stand in the same area for hours, waiting for one taguel, right? Right. All the same, Suna kept her hands on her ears, pulling them down in a cheap disguise, and cautiously made her way back to the market square. Yes... yes, just a little bit closer. The honeydew was in sight!
She... just needed to get... a teeny bit closer...
And then she caught a very, very unwelcome face, out of the corner of her eye. aaah!! the man wasn't even doing anything, but that didn't stop Suna from yelping in surprise when she finally noticed him, passively there, like a boring statue or perhaps a tree. w-why are you... still... here?! Suna spluttered out the obvious question - god, who even? Who would even! What a weirdo! Mother told her not to talk to strangers like him, she was sure of it.

at some point he ran out of money before the vendor ran out of honeydew. there is no pile of rinds in sight, not when the manakete ate them with the fruit, to the amazement of many of the passerby. the truth comes easier to jehiel than it did for suna. "i didn't want to leave without returning something that belongs to you. and you have something of mine." he pulls out the beaststone that had been resting in his pocket up to now, still warm from absorbing the sun's heat during the day. "i think that this is a fair trade for the both of us." at least not having his dragonstone wasn't too much of a problem in the market. transforming into a dragon in the middle of the street would bring more trouble than it solved. even then, jehiel had been vaguely concerned that the taguel would lose the dragonstone before she returned. "do you still have my item?" suna | I'm thinking we should ride To a place that we don't know |

It was like he was barely affected by anything. His response was casual, conversational even - and then the man pulled out a very, very familiar looking stone. Purple. That looked like a beastone - no, more than that, that looked like her beaststone, and...
Everything suddenly dawned on her, and a crushing sense of embarrassment slapped her in the face.
Suna wasn't sure if she was an idiot or an idiot, but either way, she was pretty ashamed. So - no color changing beaststones, she just lost hers and ended up with this strange knock off green rock. One that... apparently belonged to this man. And that's why he stopped her in the middle of the street! And that's why he waited! The stone was important to him or something, right? sorry, she mumbled, guiltily, fishing about in her bag for the green stone. It took a few moments, but she finally found it - stuck underneath a book. She held it out to the man, and then thought to say - i just thought my beaststone turned green or something...
Okay, that definitely made her sound like an idiot, but this whole situation was mostly her fault! If only she had been more careful when picking things up, after being so careless as to bump into him the first time. what is it? she decided to ask, because if it wasn't a green beaststone, Suna was stumped. i've never seen a green rock like this...
