Reinir turned his head as the Crimson Witch approached him, now staring wide-eyed as he realized why she was called that. No one would miss a killer. Hah. Maybe he had underestimated the girl after all. She had changed a lot, yes, but not in the way he had thought. Meanwhile, he had been left behind. Abandoned. It hadn't escaped his notice that the Cerchio had left him. So that was how it was to turn out.
Fairen, where are you?" he asked, barely hearing the Witch's call for last words. "Was I...the sacrifice all along?"
Whether he had intended those as last words or not, they were were all he got out before the pain brought on by Trinity's wasting magic shut out all ability to speak. Even the ability to scream was beyond him now, leaving him silently writhing and wasting away until even that was beyond him. Finally, one final bolt of magic speared him through the heart, but by that point Reinir was already dead and unrecognizable.
Meanwhile, out of sight across the ice, Sonya slowly made her way back, her head held low and her expression downcast. This...was going to take some explaining, she thought. She had failed, that much would be obvious, but it was only after she figured out who the thief was that she realized how badly she had done so.

Trinity had barely managed to hear a name from that rat's mouth before he was brutally executed by magic, but she didn't recognize it. Something about what he said was bugging her. But at least she was a lot more calm now. Tired, but calm. Eventually, Trinity limped her way towards the figure of Sonya, who was making her way back. Her head was held low but Trinity couldn't see her expression. The blonde eventually got close enough to her to speak and be actually heard. "...Sonya? ...He escaped, right...?" Trinity asked, that was the only logical conclusion she could come to upon seeing Sonya looking so... Upset. Disappointed. Trinity wanted to comfort her, but she didn't truly understand Sonya's motives at the end of the day. "Sonya, I'm alright now. What we need to do now is to clear things up and see what we can do from here. I'm sure you've got an explanation but that guy I killed earlier said something that's been bugging me too. First let's find a safer place to talk. If that stupid thief's gone then there's no point in chasing anymore." Trinity said.
The Crimson Witch was visibly tired, exhausted, too. Panting. Out of breath. As if she had released something truly powerful and devastating.

Sonya looked up again, hearing Trinity call her name. Her face was visible now, and it said everything. She'd fucked up. The single most important part of this little operation, and she'd failed it. Even if he had been just any other goon, he'd be on his way to report back right away. Even if he'd been hired help, he'd have to explain why the job failed and beg for mercy.
But no, he had to have been one of the Cerchio.
She gave Trinity a small smile as sh said that she was alright. "Good...that's good. I'm glad something went right, at least. Let's...let's head back to town." That's all they could do at this point. No way in hell were they going to go all the way back home in their current state. Unless Trinity had scared everyone off or something, which Sonya chose to have faith that she hadn't, they'd probably be able to get a room at the local inn. Kideia didn't seem like the kind of place to get many visitors.

Trinity blinked as Sonya seemed so give a small smile upon hearing that she was, for the most part, alright. She suggested that they head back to town. Well, it was pretty difficult to trek back all the way home with how things were turning out now. Trinity shook her head and wrapped both of her arms around one of Sonya's arms gently, as if trying to comfort her. "Yeah... Let's... Let's head back. Need some time to regain our energy and figure out... What we need to do." Trinity said, carefully trying to leave out any mention of the big 'failure' in the operation. Trinity couldn't blame Sonya for it, though. Something about this whole thing seemed to bug her a lot. She'd have to ask Sonya about it, though, since it was directly tied to those 'last words' of Reinir. The way he threw out the question to nobody in particular... Made it sound like this entire thing was staged. Like it was a trap. A bait.
And they bit the bait.
Trinity had hoped that her hunch was wrong, that she was just thinking too hard over it. She really hoped. But she had to make sure of it. Trinity decided just to stick close to Sonya as they returned to town.
