Trinity"Thanks for the update. Tell the Steward's messenger that it'll get done. If he wants it done faster though, he needs to give us bigger boats. ...Actually, don't tell him that part. It's not like Ylisse can afford anything better than we already have anyway.""Got it. Oh, by the way, about that thing you wanted me to look into..."Sonya stopped in place. She was literally just about to turn away and shut the door, too. Not that she minded seeing her best scout, but he really needed better timing. Trinity was over and Sonya had wanted to make the most of it, but of course 'duty' had to come calling. As far as burning some lakeside Plegian village and renting out her crew's 'fishing' boats qualified as duty. Surprise surprise, it didn't. But 'that thing' was much more relevant. "Go on," she said, looking at the scout expectantly. "A few days ago, I saw a Plegian man up near the Longfort with a small group of merc-looking guys. Looked like he was scouting the place. Matched the description of one of those guys you told us about. I did some poking around, and apparently he's been staying up in Kideia and should still be there for another day or two.""That's not much time." This particular scout never revealed his methods, but he always ended up taking a few days to get anything good, even if he was just spying on someone from the next town over. She was used to having a very short amount of time to act on his information, but it was almost always reliable. He nodded. "Don't worry though, the information's good. I made sure of that. The rest of us want revenge for Aria too, after all.""Good man," Sonya said. She clapped the scout on the shoulder, then stepped back through the door frame. "I'm going to take care of that first. Expect me back at camp in two days' time. Then we'll deal with the Steward's errand.""Got it."The scout took off, leaving Sonya to shut the door again and wander back into the living room. Who would it be this time? Oh, she hoped it was Alain. Or Reinir. Both of them had it coming, and they'd cripple Velia's group good. She had just the thing to take one of them out, too. She'd just need to get Trinity in on it. Which, knowing Trinity, would take no effort at all. Catching sight of her, Sonya grinned and asked as directly as possible. "Hey Trinity, want to help kill someone who's been a thorn in my side for twelve years?"

Trinity found herself lounging around in a covered part of the cabin (away from where Sonya was, but she looked to be discussing something with someone Trinity was unfamiliar with). She spotted the dark-haired beauty but decided to stay away from her for now until she was done talking to the person. Though the Crimson Witch did manage to eavesdrop - though only barely, and it was mostly Sonya's voice she heard rather than the person she was corresponding with. Something about there not being much time, and then a complement towards the person she was talking to. Perhaps collecting information about something? Trinity was unsure, but she was going to find out fairly quickly as Sonya ended up closing the door and approaching her. Smiling, Trinity just looked at her and Sonya simply asked her if she wanted to "help kill someone who had been a thorn in her side for 12 years." Trinity giggled, scratching her chin almost nefariously. "You want to get me in on your lovely schemes already? I am just absolutely flattered. I would be more than happy to provide my services for you, my lovely flower." Trinity giggled, appending a creepily sugar-laden teehee at the end of that.
"Please do enlighten me on your target of choice. I assume your little chat with the person at the door was related to this? I can use my magic in a variety of... creative ways, so simply tell me what to do and I'll not disappoint you, love." Trinity said, accepting the responsibility with open arms. Yes. An opportunity for the Crimson Witch to kill in the name of love. How romantic that was! Trinity stood up and approached Sonya, gently clasping her hands with her own. "Yes... I'll show you what I can really do, my dearest Sonya." Trinity whispered in a soft, sincere tone. It might have sounded creepy at first, but the intent behind it was genuine. She just... wasn't the best at expressing herself. Not in this kind of context, anyway.

Oh wow, that was a pretty enthusiastic answer. Beautiful, exciting, and a bit creepy, all at once. An oddly cute sort of creepy. Sonya could tell that Trinity was sincere, though. Or, at least, she really hoped so. "You sound so happy," Sonya said, smiling. "Good. I'm also more than happy to have you with me, hon."
Just as she thought, no effort at all. Sonya had to admit, she was a little enthusiastic as well. This would be the first time she was truly excited about murdering someone in a long time. A measure of caution and control would be important, of course, but that didn't mean she couldn't look forward to it. "Okay, so, I mentioned before that when I first started out on this path I ended up working with a group running out of Plegia. They're a guild of sorts that trains and employs assassins, and they're run by the worst sort of person. They want me dead for failure, desertion, betrayal...only part of that's my fault. The guy I was talking with just now was one of my crew's scouts. He just told me that one of that group's top spies was in the area. He couldn't say who, but all of them are bad news and any of them dying means I'm better off...just so long as it can't immediately be identified as my work. So that's why we're going to work together to kill him."

Sonya explained the situation after expressing her happiness towards Trinity's answer. The crimson witch listened intently, taking into account the context behind what would be the next major job Trinity's had in a long time. She had to admit, there was a certain thrill in being tasked to murder someone who would be a pain in her lover's side. Of course, it gave Trinity a stronger drive to do well at it. Yes, this would put her skills and expertise to the test. The story was as such, it seemed that Sonya had initially started out with a guild of assassins that was based in Plegia, apparently run by the 'worst sort of person.' This was part of the reason why Trinity preferred to operate alone, but she still wasn't fully aware of Sonya's upbringing, so she couldn't tell for sure. Yes, those reasons are typical of a group or organization who are currently mad or angered at a former member.
"I see... I can't stand for a group of fools who want to see you dead. I'll gladly kill anyone who dares to even lay a hand on you," Trinity said, still keeping her hands holding Sonya's. "I'll make sure to do whatever I can to help you. Hopefully I can make it so the death will be implicated by someone else instead of you. Depending on our method of attack I'll probably be able to devise some way to kill your target of choice." Trinity said more seriously this time, already thinking about her own elaborate plan to try and kill this person. Indeed, how could anybody want this wonderful woman dead? Trinity just couldn't stand for that. She was going to make sure that such fools really got what they deserved for trying to mess with Sonya.

Sonya squeezed Trinity's hands gently as she gave her response. "Thanks, hon. I mean it. I know what I'm asking probably seems simple to you, but it means a lot to me." She leaned in and kissed Trinity, then stood up again. "We should get moving, then. The town where he's staying is called Kideia. It's just less than a day's walk from here, but only if we don't waste any time. Once we're there, we need to find the guy before he leaves and work out how to deal with him."
Fortunately, 'before he leaves' was only necessary for finding him. After that, they could follow him if they had to, although the closer to the town and the Longfort he was when they executed their plan, the easier it would be to come up with a cover. After all, if he died in front of the wall, it could be made to look like he was killed by Feroxi border guards. Closer to Plegia though, it could be blamed on bandits or Plegian royals. Or maybe no one would have to find his body at all. Given everything that Trinity had said, she could probably make it unrecognizable. Sonya wasn't worried about sending a message. Velia was the type to receive it, loud and clear, then respond in kind. No, she just wanted one less enemy.

Trinity smiled and blushed when she felt Sonya squeeze her hands gently, before she was greeted with a kiss. Nodding affirmatively, Trinity listened to Sonya's brief explanation of how things were going to pan out. They did need to get moving if their target was going to be leaving in due time. "Alright, gotcha. I agree, we should leave now, because it doesn't matter if he's about to leave as long as we find him beforehand. We can tail him once we spot his location. I can probably make it seem like he was killed by someone totally different or I can magick up a mysterious cause of death," Trinity whispered as she already began to think and draft up in her mind ways of assassinating this target. Being able to help her dear Sonya get rid of her enemies was already giving Trinity happy chemicals in her mind.
Hopefully she would come up with something stylish as usual, in an attempt to make things look totally out there, but at the very least attributable to somebody not named 'Sonya' nor 'Trinity.' The Crimson Witch soon stood next to Sonya, clinging to her arm playfully for a moment before giving her some space. "Very well, then, Sonya, dearest. If you know the way, please lead me there. We can figure things out more clearly when we pinpoint his exact location, and I can try to see what I can use there to do the job." Trinity said, smiling. She was really excited about this whole thing, she was definitely looking forward to this execution.

"Exactly what I was thinking," Sonya said. She giggled as Trinity clung to her arm for a second. Then, once the lovely blonde lady stepped away, Sonya moved quickly to gather her weapons and any other gear she thought she might need. A thin length of rope, a compass, some gold so that they could stay the night in town rather than camping or going without sleep. A couple extra knives, better suited to utility purposes than combat, but could be used to stab someone in a pinch. Otherwise, though, she didn't gather all that much. Traveling fast would be much easier if they were traveling light.
Meanwhile, she wondered what all she could get away with doing. Her old self was starting to creep back into her mind at the thought of killing old enemies. She wasn't going to go back to that. Not completely. But that didn't mean she couldn't enjoy murdering her way to freedom. Just a little bit. So it was with a slight bounce in her step that she finished up her preparations and returned to Trinity. "Shall we, then?" she asked, sliding an arm around Trinity's waist.

Trinity herself gave Sonya some room to gather some belongings and prepare some small equipment for the trip ahead. Some gold coin too. Trinity had a healthy supply of money on her herself from previous endeavours, so if it wasn't enough, Trinity would be more than happy to chip in as well. Regardless, Trinity patiently waited for her dearest to finish before she felt Sonya's arm around her waist. This gave Trinity a small blush and elicited a smile from her. "I'm as ready as you could ever be," Trinity answered, wrapping an arm around Sonya's shoulders. "Let's make our way quickly. We shouldn't try to waste too much time. The quieter our kill, the better. But of course, we can still definitely have our fun with this." she continued as she nodded and urged Sonya to lead the way.
Indeed, there was some excitement in this whole arrangement. While Trinity wasn't necessarily paid in coin for this, something that usually would have deterred her from accepting had it come from anyone else, an opportunity to execute someone who had been a detriment to Sonya of course would be something Trinity would gladly snatch with no hesitation. Part of it, honestly, came from something that Trinity would hate to admit at first, but surely, she would come to terms with it over time - she felt indebted to Sonya for sparing her life, and at the same time, she really did feel in love with her. Perhaps it was a desire to do anything for her that spurred her to action.
Well, anyway, the point is, Trinity would be more than happy to carry this out.

"Mhm," Sonya said, smiling. "If I have to earn my happiness with the bodies of old enemies, then we might as well make the most of it." She led Trinity out, rearranging a few bits of scrap around the outside of her cabin as a coded notice that she wasn't there. They had a day's walk ahead of them, but if they were lucky they could make it to Kideia before or right at sunset. If that was the case, then everything would fall right into place. Normally, she hated traveling such long distances on foot, but with Trinity accompanying her, it wouldn't be so bad at all.
Several hours of walking later, they finally got out of the woods to find the town in the valley below them. The Longfort, the big fortified wall running along the border, was visible off in the distance, an easy if somewhat lengthy walk from the town. Despite that, the town itself had no wall or fortifications of any sort. It was as though they simply trusted that Regna Ferox would never turn against Ylisse, or that brigands wouldn't dare come this close to the border with a country of warriors. Suspicious. But for them, it would work out to their advantage.
Sonya turned her eyes west. The sun was starting to set, but they'd still managed to make good time getting there. If their targets were still casing the wall, as the scout had said, then they'd be returning from the day's trip soon. Or already back, in the worst case scenario. They'd have to cover both bases in a short amount of time. "Okay, one of us is going to have to ask around at the local inn, and one of us is going to have to watch the north side of town to look for anyone returning. How likely do you think it is that anyone in town here would recognize you?"

Trinity nodded as she was led out by Sonya, the scrap outside of the cabin was rearranged a little to indicate to others that she wasn't in. Looked like they were going to be in for the long haul. While it was a long walk, Trinity took the time to stay close to Sonya, along the way she'd occasionally give her a playful nuzzle or cling a little more tightly to her. She could sense that Sonya wasn't a huge fan of long walks on foot. Trinity however was far more used to such long walks, so she decided to try and help Sonya be as comfortable as possible for something like this. Eventually after several hours on their trek, they were out of the woods. Both literally and figuratively speaking that is (as Sonya led them through some woods...). The village of Kideia itself seemed suspiciously... not fortified. Trinity scratched her head as they slowed their approach to the village and soon observed alongside Sonya that the sun was beginning to set. Okay, so they could probably still make it, but they needed to make decisions quickly.
Sonya asked Trinity how likely anybody in town was to recognize her. Considering Trinity wasn't familiar with this area, it was a good question. One she wasn't entirely sure of the answer to. "Hmm... I think I should be okay. I don't think word of me has spread this far. I think I can go ahead and ask around if you'd like me to. Tell me who or what I should be asking and I'll do it in record time, I hope." Trinity said more seriously this time, trying to sound a little hasty (but at the same time, her voice didn't show it too much). Trinity was quickly deciding how to go about asking. She figured she shouldn't sound too urgent about it, lest she blow her cover. But to be honest, not many people would probably recognize her given the remoteness of the town.

She didn't think so, huh? That was slightly more comforting than 'they definitely would', but it was a start at least. Still, Sonya wondered if they shouldn't switch roles from what she'd originally planned. She was quite good at scouting and had very good eyesight. Good enough that she could probably take up archery if she so desired. That said, if she was spotted, their targets would recognize her immediately. And if there was any risk of the townspeople recognizing Trinity, then maybe it was better for each of them to take the role where they were less likely to be recognized.
"If you're not sure, maybe it would be better for you to scout and me to ask around," Sonya suggested. "Up to you, of course, but I can ask around too if need be. Unless word's been spreading about every bandit threat in the area, nobody here will recognize me as one. Either way.." She pulled out a roll of paper and unrolled it. It hadn't been something she gathered before she left, because she almost always had it on her. "We're looking for one of these four. From the way my scout as talking, it's gotta be one of these two." She pointed out the top two of four surprisingly detailed sketches. Both were men, one older, one younger. The scout had constantly referred to their target as male, which immediately ruled out the other two, both clearly women. All of them were noticeably Plegian. "He'll have a small group of guards with him. They're probably fellow assassins, but they'll look like mercenaries."

Trinity scratched her head and looked back to the village. ...Nah. She was probably okay. Trinity shrugged and smiled. "...Nah. I'm probably good." Trinity said, as Sonya pulled out a roll of paper and unfurled it to show four sketches that were... surprisingly detailed. Whoever did these obviously cared a lot about the work or job or request. Sonya then pointed out the two top sketches, showing the faces of two men. One old, one young. The other two were ladies but Trinity didn't care about those once Sonya only pointed out the guys. "Noted." Trinity simply said as she committed the images to memory - memory was one thing she had in excess, considering her penchant for magic and her own experiences requiring nearly eidetic memory to get things done. She would be fine. "What should I do once I've figured out their location, or if we've gotten sight of the target?" Trinity asked.
It was either going to be one of those two men, so Trinity had to make sure she had a contingency plan for what to do when she either saw one of them or both of them. It wouldn't necessarily be Trinity's easiest job yet but she figured it wouldn't be that difficult just to ask around.

"Hmm..." Sonya said, pondering the question. They wouldn't exactly be able to communicate as long as Trinity was in town and Sonya was at the outskirts. If she found them, she could always shadow them for a bit, then attack when their guard was down, but...no, that wouldn't work. The last thing Sonya wanted was a confrontation in town. In fact, it would be better if there were no witnesses at all, something that would be next to impossible in town. Even on the outskirts would be difficult, since there wasn't any kind of wall.
"If you catch sight of them, try to figure out where they're staying. Shadow them if you have to, but don't do anything that'll give yourself away. Otherwise, once you know something just report back to me. I'll be..." Sonya scanned the town again, spotting a building on the northern edge that stood out a little more than the ones around it. "Somewhere around there," she said, pointing towards it, "Until I hear from you."

Trinity looked at Sonya for a moment as she pondered the question, and indeed she must have been thinking. How exactly would they communicate from afar? Obviously, one would have to tail them or at least keep a close eye on them if they were found. Attacking immediately might have started a scene, which would be the worst case scenario. Sonya must have been taking a lot of things into consideration but soon explained her answer. Trinity noted it mentally. Find out where they were staying. Shadow them if it was necessary, without giving herself away. Once she's gotten the information she was to meet Sonya at a building on the northern edge that looked fairly conspicuous. She would be there until Trinity gave her an answer. The crimson witch nodded affirmatively. "Got it, hon. I'll not disappoint you." Trinity simply said, looking around and scanning the environment immediately for ways to keep herself noticed. She didn't want to use her magic techniques for this either as it may make her too obvious.
"I may deal with magic, but I do think I've got a bit of tactical espionage in me, you know what I'm saying? Then, I'll be off?" Trinity joked before making sure she got everything before setting off.

"Indeed. Best of luck to you, then," Sonya said, giving Trinity a quick kiss before heading off as well and making her way into town.
Once in town, she acted as casually as she could, walking with a purpose but not too much haste all the way across the main street towards the far end. She didn't talk to anyone, but she responded with a smile and occasionally a casual wave to anyone who turned eyes in her direction. Soon she was all the way to the other end without incident. Once there, she was able to get a good look at the building she'd picked out for her own watch. Judging by the people standing around it, it was a guardhouse, but probably not an actively used one. Neither of its posted guards noticed Sonya as she cut around to the side, then started climbing jagged stones to get to the rooftop.
Once there, she lowered her body enough to hopefully not be visible (or at least, to not be obvious) from the ground, and turned her eyes out towards the partially snow-covered field between the open town of Kideia and the long wall on the border of Regna Ferox.
