esmer, Tsan'lo, cassius[attr="class","info"]The forests of the north were often dense and barely an inch of sunshine got through the tree tops, even in the autumn months when the leaves were falling. However, it made for an incredibly pretty scene; towering trees along a shaded forest path, decorated with red and yellow and brown and orange hues. The dirt path was bumpy and rutted by the wheels of carts that frequented it. There was a ditch on either side and the path was almost walled in by the trees. The merchant adjusted the speed of her cart, and glanced at the three companions that she had with her.
"Thanks for coming along with me. I promise I'll drop you off at the Feroxian border like we agreed on. I could really use the extra protection, especially in this forest. You got to watch out though; you'll sometimes have archers that shoot between the trees from foliage." The otherwise cheery looking merchant flipped her long red ponytail over her shoulder and kept driving in silence, a smile on her face.
Unbeknownst to her, some figures had started to move from tree to tree, following the cart and evaluating the wares in the back. This merchant mostly sold weapons of high quality, as well as some trinkets that could bring in an easy buck. It was certainly worth the raid, especially with the combattants being outnumbered 2:1. This would be an easy heist, hopefully. Tsan'lo huffed in silence as the merchant spoke. She was not interested in her thanks nor her promises of dropping them near the Feroxian border. Nor was she truly interested in her traveling companions either. Some blue haired lady and some man. They were of no importance to her as long as they would help her complete the job with pride and ease. She needed the money to live for a while. She proceeded to lift her sword from the wooden planks of the cart, balancing it in her hand, striking it in the air a few times, as if practicing. She needed no practice. She was already perfection in her respective field, and this would just... No. She was tracing off. She turned her head to quickly look around the forest, not noticing anything out of the ordinary for now. She could hear light thumps up in the treetops... Probably squirrels or similar things. She still held her sword ready. esmer, cassius

| ❝ Autumn had always been her most favoured of the seasons. The temperature, the colours, all of it held some kind of attraction to her. But she couldn't rightly say what made it stand above the other three. Personal preference perhaps? Esmer fought the urge to shuffle her feet through the leaves like her inner child requested - no - demanded of her. It was hardly a professional thing to do right? Or maybe it wouldn't have mattered in the slightest if she jus- The bluenette shook the thoughts from her head and readjusted the pointed hat on her head. At least the fidgeting kept her focused on the task at hand.
A small trickle of apprehension settled into her chest as she waited. Of course she wasn't so naive as to think she'd be protecting this merchant alone, back when she'd agreed to accompany her over the borders. confidence in her ability she may have had but in being a humble merchant herself she knew very well what dangers could lurk in your blind-spot. A foreign scent drifted on the wind but she paid it no heed, amusing she was still unused to the two strangers who would be her travelling companions for the foreseeable future. "It wasn't any trouble." She reassured the redhead, glancing at the only other female of their company from the corner of her gaze. Who didn't look all too amused by the situation. The male she hadn't taken much time to assess either. She was sure there'd be time to socialize later.
Carrying no visible weapons, Esmer didn't look the part of protector. It was good in a way she supposed, it allowed opponents to underestimate her, or assume she utilized tomes by default given her mage-like appearance. Either way she was never too put off by suspicious of incredulous stares that questioned her capability. Thankfully she'd been subjected to none as of yet. "Hopefully there'll be little use for us, though given the state of things I kind of doubt it..." She rambled off into silence, eyeing the surrounding treeline slowly so as not to cause alarm. Though she was certain her ears caught hurried movement beneath the decorative shells.

“ GIMMIE THE BOOTY I WANT THE BOOTY ” "You got to watch out though; you'll sometimes have archers that shoot between the trees from foliage.""You say that as if it's a tourist attraction," Cassius purred, sitting tall on top of his horse. The trodding of his steed shook his bangs into his eyes which he took care of with a self-assured smirk and a steady brush of his hand. As his palm cast over his eyes, his gaze flickered in calculated rotations, scrying the bushes' shadows under the cover of his own, "It's no problem, miss. Ylisse's cavalry is always willing to offer a hand and it seems like we have other hands that are free, yea?" A practiced smile spread across his face as he nodded to his companions, his eyes diminishing into crescents, only interrupted by the obstinacy of his strawberry blonde strands. He inclined his head towards Tsan'lo's side, his gentle locks cascading and brushing off his cheek, "Isn't it nice to have some company?"Cassius' smile shuffled away as he heard the slight anxiety underlining Esmer's voice. It wasn't as if he hadn't noticed too. The out-of-place sounds, the darker hues of greys and browns among the forest shade... His hand slipped into the small opening of a canvas sack, grabbing hold of something round. Oh, Mr. Spuds. As if the shade of the forest metamorphosed into a wave of relief, he felt the cool air drench his disciplined body. He pulled his hand away to dissuade any persecutions of suspicion before bringing it back to his hair again. She frowned as the male inclined some of his words to her with a tilt of his head. She could just SENSE all the effort he put to turn his voice into something smooth and easily flowing, like he was some seducer of sorts. Pathetic, truly. But she felt like playing along with this little charlatan to show him his place. "... Yes, truly. Such charming company." There was the slightest hint of sarcasm in her voice. The merchant continued smiling peacefully as they continued to ride along, but above the branches there was something that would have made her lose that smile very quickly. There was an archer, a lone one, aiming at the ground in front of them before releasing a shot. Once he did so, he shouted. "NOW!" The merchant blinked as the arrow landed in front of the cart before a mage suddenly pushed trough the bushes, pointing his hand forwards as she unleashed a wave of wind magic at the cart, pushing it over, leading to the Merchant screaming as she flew off. Tsan'lo herself managed to jump out before she could be flung away with the cart, her sword already ready. "I don't have to tell you we're being ambushed." esmer, cassius

| ❝ She found herself smiling at the young man's behaviour, at the sword-wielder's expense it appeared but the woman didn't seem to be affected by it if the sarcasm she heard was any indication. "Mn." She nodded in agreement, eyes poised on the path ahead as she trailed by the burdened beast hauling the merchant's trove. Her right hand rose up to give the horse a thankful stroke along the neck before she ceased her admiration of him. Truth be told a small part of her was pining for the company of her own steed back home.
"Depending on the company, journey's can be enjoyable I guess." She spoke a bit unsure, not at all experienced when it came to this kind of travel...with others. The most recent time she could think of was alongside her parents, which was a topic she'd rather not get into. Esmer had intended to make conversation with their client but before she even had the chance the sound of an arrow slicing through air caught her immediate attention. Her previously happy mood took a complete turn, a small albeit childish pout marring her features. "I just had to jinx us didn't I..." She mumbled under her breath.
The blast of wind came as a surprise and Esmer was no exception to it's power. Thankfully, being as close as she was to the merchant, managed to cushion her fall from the cart as it toppled despite being blown away a bit herself. "Well that was rude." She managed to croak out from beneath the redheaded woman's weight before said woman gathered her wits and managed to remover herself from the manakete; apologizing with a sheepish grin to which Esmer just waved off with an assured smile.
Sensing the seriousness of the situation the merchant dashed forward to free the startled horse from his bindings, his shocked state soothed by her familiar voice enough for her to lead both herself and the creature from the line of fire. It was the inventory these brutes had their eyes on after all, it always was. Even so, she remained alert. Meanwhile, Esmer had managed to haul herself up from the forest floor dusting the fallen leaves from her robes. A split second sensation that caused the hairs on the back of her neck to rise compelled her to duck, which she did; allowing the arrow to miss it's mark and lodge itself in the bark of the tree behind her.
Too close, too close! The bluenette felt a drop of swat travel down her brow. These tight-knit surroundings weren't the best place for her either, if she shifted her mobility would be restricted...what a pickle. Assessing the situation and monitoring the treetops for hidden archers she spoke softly to herself. "Priorities are the client's protection as well as the cart." Which they had so immaculately capsized. A plus planning there, though she really didn't expect much intelligent thinking from these kinds of thieves. Esmer gently touched the decorative stone she kept chained on her brown like a headdress. She would need to find a space to shift where she was less likely to cause more harm than good. To her companions that is.

“ GIMMIE THE BOOTY I WANT THE BOOTY ” "... Yes, truly. Such charming company."
"Thanks." Cassius' lips pursed into a knowing smirk. The sarcasm laced in her retort had taken him aback, if only a little but he salvaged her stinging words as a small victory, triumphant in having eased a voice out of her. He was glad the other was at least talkative to some extent. Cassius liked to talk. He liked to hear the sound of his own voice and like a mirror, he loved reading the faces of conversation. But he couldn't read the wind. Cassius barked in surprise as his horse reared in alarm. His knuckles whitened over the reins as he struggled to gain control. The merchant's cart had toppled over with a tremendous crash and his eyes immediately went to the rider's seat. Relieved to see Esmer brace the woman's fall, he succeeded in planting his horse's front hooves on the ground. "Everyone all right!?" Of course, a part of that question was dedicated to his potato. Cassius peered over to see Tsan'lo yield her sword who had narrated the situation, "Yea, you think?" At first glance, she seemed capable. The stoic-types had that image of being powerful, of being "badass", of being able to cut clean a twirling maple seed in the wind and he hoped for their sake she'd live up to that. An enemy cavalier wielding a lance of his own blitzkrieged his side, forcing Cassius to jolt and pull on his reins to avoid the stern peak of his weapon. He winced as the enemy's lance cut through the wind. But this time, he had read it. Feeling the swirl of air brush against his face, Cassius thrust his arm forward, landing a solid-hit against his assaulter. As the enemy recoiled, he cried out to Esmer, "Remember when you said 'it depended on the company?' I get it now." Wiping his rustled bangs away, he held firm. Although outdoor skirmishes were his forte, his heart couldn't help but tighten when the bandit troupe closed in. "I'll handle the mage." With those simple words she rushed off into the woods, after the mage that had disappeared from sight after doing her little cart flip. As she rushed trough the bushes, she kept her ears open for any noise that did not come from her rustling the bushes. Slice. She could feel something slicing against her shoulder. Cold steel, or more so cold bronze. She cursed herself as she rolled back, pointing her sword as the waiting swordsman, apparently from Chon'sin, grinned as he wiped some of her blood from the sword. The dastard had only managed to cause a small cut, yet she was already getting frustrated at falling for such a cheap trick. So she chose to direct said frustration at the opposing myrmidon as she rushed forwards, suddenly striking her sword wildly towards the myrmidon as she managed to get a nice cut into his shoulder before she had to roll to the side to avoid his strike. She saw her chance here as she once more slashed, this time managing to slice his back. This was going well! Obviously. And then she got blasted away by some wind magic, slamming against a tree. esmer, cassius

| ❝ "Not exactly what I meant by it." She laughed. "But I'm glad it made some ounce of sense."
"Wait we shouldn-" It was already too late, Tsun'lo's back had disappeared withing the trees and left both her and Cassius among the rest of the fighters. Whether her outcry had gone unheard or just plain ignored she didn't know but she would assume this was a common tactic bandit's implemented to attain their prize. Separate and pick off their opponents one mby one. "The worst thing we can do is separate..." She facepalmed, peeved at the situation. As she was about to press forward she dodged yet another arrow, only this tip the bladed tip had managed to cut a smooth line along the delicate skin of her cheek, leaving a thin trail of blood to travel down from it.
She eyes the archer in distaste as he notched yet another of the projectiles. Esmer held her breath at the sight of Cassius' near miss of the lance but released it after seeing no harm had been done. This couldn't go on. Screw the constricting space. Running forward she abruptly halted and closed her eyes in concentration, arm raised in what she believed to be the universal pose for her kinds tranformations. Whether it was to be true or not she didn't know but it worked well for her all the same.
Alongside the light that began to envelop her numerous translucent blue particles materialized, varying in in shape and size. It was odd to admit it but Esmer had always enjoyed the rush of the transformation, even if she didn't appreciate the dragon form itself. It obviously made her stand out of a crowd that was for sure, but perhaps it was an inherent feeling that her mind automatically preferred it like this. "That feels better." Her voice retained it's feminine tone but took on a kind of ethereal echo. Rearing her head back and that throwing it forward she released a compressed blast of blueish energy, hitting it's mark true and sending both horse and rider out for the count.
"Haha!" In a lapse of childishness she flapped her wings and hovered happily from the ground. What sounded like steel on steel caught her attention, as well as the little tickle she felt on her hide. Another arrow had been deflected by the polished scales. Serpentine red eyes narrowed at the archer as she motioned her head toward the treetops for Cassius to take notice. "I'll take care of him." One flap was all she needed to reach the height but she'd been subjected to a volley of projectiles, some catching the grooved of her scales and dislodging several , causing pain, discomfort and some bleeding but still she ascended. "You're annoying!" Spinning mid-flight she aimed to knock the offender from his perch with a harsh swing of her tail.

“ GIMMIE THE BOOTY I WANT THE BOOTY ” "Weeeell, I'm sure she'll be all right," Cassius quipped, "'Sides, if you're afraid of being lonely, you've got a handsome face right here." He laughed, jabbing a finger into his cheek as he composed himself. "But I'm glad it made some ounce of sense."
"Though, considering the situation we're in now..." He peered around in alarm, hearing the violent howl of a gale within the woods. "I wouldn't have minded being ignorant of it for a little longer."After he had fought off the lance-cavalier's initial attack, he shuffled backwards as Esmer dashed towards them. Spacing himself from the flanked enemy, he tightened his hold on the reins again. The extraordinary glow that engulfed her figure drew his breath from his lungs, the blue flecks that pirouetted and billowed around the strengthening core of light instilling fear—or was it sudden admiration of beauty?—within the surrounded cavalryman. The powerful discharge of azure and cobalt rekindled a confidence in him. He raised his arm and hollered. "YEA! That's how you do it! Nice one!" With the felled bandit laying motionless a few steps away, he nodded towards the Manakete as she spoke. "And I'll return the favor!" He gnarled, rearing his horse, making a swift u-turn as he read her next move. Gritting his teeth, he charged towards the tree, Esmer's tail parallel to his sprint as it smashed the branch off the trunk. As the archer plummeted among splinters, Cassius directed his lance forwards and thrust. He ran the bandit through. Running a free hand through his hair, he smiled briefly before his features solidified into an uneasy glower. He trotted back towards Esmer while shouting out into the woods, "You all right in there!?" Cassius had heard some wind magics before—indubitably it had been purposed for Tsan'lo. Cassius motioned for his horse to enter the woods, but from the darkness, the remaining sword cavalier and cleric had seized his passage. But that didn't slow him down. Using the range advantage of his lance, he fought off the cavalryman's sword before reaching the Cleric, his experience with traversing over outdoor terrain exemplified in the way he weaved his horse over the mess of vegetation and fallen logs. Gripping him by the cloak, he flung him over to Esmer with a hoarse growl—thankfully the Cleric had a thin build. Threatening the sword cavalier by gesturing to the looming dragon over his cleric friend, he put a finger to his lips. Sighing, he ignored their bittered faces and cried towards the wood, "Hey, you low-life bandits!" He hoped his voice had reached Tsan'lo's nuisances. "We'll give you the cart. Bring the girl here and we'll have a trade, all right?"
Knowing that they had been focusing on her (or at least, he hoped they had been), he realized that they would have been oblivious to Esmer's transformation. He nodded towards the Manakete and the merchant. The moment the bandits come, they would strike. TAGGED Tsan'lo & esmerNOTES Lance cavalier + archer are down. Myrmidon, Mage are occupying Tsan'lo. She could hear a crack. She was not sure where it had happened, but she did know that it was loud. Probably somewhere around her chest or luckily, jaw. She slid down the tree in a way someone could describe as comical, gasping for air. She could not hear his companion's yell, but the bandits surely could. They turned their heads before switching a few words between each other. Too many words, in fact. Tsan'lo managed to get herself up to her feet while the bandits were still discussing, managing to dash forwards as her blade proceeded to impale itself into the flesh of the mage, the tip of her blade peeking trough the female mage's back. She twisted the sword before pulling it out, the mage falling down dead before she was shoulder tackled down by the myrmidon. She was angered, definitely. She could feel all the blood pumping to her head as she rolled to the side and got up, charging forwards to the bandit myrmidon as she begun to slash wildly across his chest for a good while before stopping, taking a step back and heavily panting while the myrmidon collapsed. She was out of juice. She fell to her knees, still breathing heavy. esmer, cassius(notes; Mage and Myrmidon are out, but Tsan'lo is kinda outta juice.)

| ❝ "'Sides, if you're afraid of being lonely, you've got a handsome face right here." Smile she did but it was a difficult expression to determine from her scaled appearance. The silence that followed Cassius' call to Tsan'lo and the bandits she pursued caused a seed of panic to bloom in her mind. Silence didn't bode well for their companion and she hoped the reason for it was that Tsan'lo was too far away to make sense of it. When the cavalier made his move made a move to assist but found the Cleric being flung her way before she could cross the distance. The dragon let show a row of fangs when the Cleric dared to stare at his captor, for the time being.
"Don't even think about it." It was promise enough of an unpleasant end should he decide to chance it and run away. The bandit's companion appeared to be more resolute against her but dared not move, a wise decision. It surprised her though really, she didn't expect that kind of loyalty in such a group. Perhaps the two knew each other well? Gah! It wasn't time for that. Esmer released a harsh puff of air from her nostrils.
Flicking her tail in an agitated fashion she kept an eye on the treeline for any sign of movement. "I don't hear anything..." She was mindful of the merchant's footsteps nearing closer toward her, a finned-ear flicking in recognition. "Maybe one of us should go check." She suggested but made no motion to do so herself, keeping a keen watch over the bandit she was towering over. There was little her captive could do in this situation but heal, it was reassuring to know he wouldn't risk trying to jab her in the gut with some kind of sharp object, unlike his friend across the way.
She could feel the blood pumping through her veins in apprehension. The atmosphere becoming more tense as the noiselessness dragged on. Her head perked when a familiar metallic scent was carried her way on the wind. "Huh? I smell blood in that direction." A growl reverberated in her throat as non-too-pleasant outcomes began to play in her mind. "But I can't tell who it belongs to..." That was some relief but it didn't calm her down by much.

“ GIMMIE THE BOOTY I WANT THE BOOTY ” Cassius couldn't help but flinch when he saw Esmer bare her fangs; ally or foe, the Manakete were amazing and like Blake's Tyger, he wasn't sure whether he should shower them in admiration or cower in respective fear. She seemed to have things under control. Then again, being a dragon, he assumed the control came naturally. "Don't hear anything? Nothing, nothing at all?" He bit his lip, his eyes never leaving the bandit before him. A bead of sweat traced the man's cheek—perhaps he was just as nervous as Cassius was considering the hopelessness of his situation. "Shit." He muttered under his uneasy breath. Despite only having met Tsan'lo before their little convoy mission began, the instincts drawn from his Ylissean title tugged at his heart. And although he was not the "leader" of the group, nor did he believe anyone was, the inclination to oversee everyone, to care for the lives of each individual solider was strong, coursing and pulsing through his limbs like lichtenberg figures. The mention of blood sparked his worries. "Then I'll head in. Watch my back," Cassius smiled before humming, "If you don't mind." He glared at the Cavalier before him as he advanced into the woods. Cassius slowed down as he passed before picking up speed, searching the woods for their missing companion. While his sense of smell wasn't as potent as the Manakete, he could hear the exasperated gasps of an exhausted warrior nearby. Leaning forward, he advanced with a calculated caution. He sighed when he saw Tsan'lo on her knees, surrounded by the bleeding testimonies of her strength. "Thank Naga you're all right." He looked her over, "Or at least, alive." Cassius brushed his hand through his hair as he always did, smirking as he always did and operating his self-grown sense of charm as he... always did. "We were worried about you. I have a waterskin if you want to drink up." His hand brushed past the satchel holding his spudly-beloved and grabbed the skin before tossing it to her. "There." Cassius' face darkened as he scolded her with his eyes, "Just don't drink it all. Got it?" He broke into a smile as he waved dismissively, "Jokes. Drink as much as you—"The sudden cry of a maddened cavalryman pierced the air as the bandit made motions to rotate into the wood. She stared at the water skin for a long while, wondering on if she should drink it or not. She decided against it, simply picking it up and throwing it right back forwards to the man as she then closed her eyes, still breathing heavily as she cancelled out everything in the world. She heard no sudden yells from bandits or anything else, she just heard her own very steady breath slowly but surely calming down into a simple whimper. She had managed to calm herself down, but she wasn't getting up any time soon. Her mind on the other hand raced as she thought about the possibilities of her survival, considering many things as her ears were finally able to catch some other noises than just her breathing. Someone was coming, she could hear the stomps. If she... No, she would not play dead. ,Let the other people kill the aggressors. esmer, cassius

| ❝ She gave a small nod of agreement when Cassius trotted off into the wood, rotating her shoulders slightly and wincing at the pain her disrupted scales caused. Knowing full well that she'd have a shallow laceration or two on her human body. There was something to look forward to. Esmer mentally chided herself for the bleak thinking before realizing that their redheaded charge had taken it upon herself to retrieve a thick length of rope and set about tying the cleric. Feeling the dragons eyes on her back the woman cast her a bright-eyed smile. "You can never be too careful."
Well, she couldn't argue with that. "Fair enough." She huffed, amusement lacing her strange voice as she allowed the merchant to take charge of the helpless bandit. Although, even if he appeared helpless you could never be to careful about what someone would resort to in desperate times. So following that, Esmer still stood close by their client to ensure her safety but failed to register a certain cavalier who had taken notice of her distraction. With a war cry he charged off into the woods, the very same direction her two companions had darted off to. "Damnit!" The scaled beast growled out between grounded fangs and sprang into action. "I'll be right back!" She called toward the woman left behind on the leaf-ridden path.
There was absolutely no hope in hell she could fly in this situation, much to her chagrin. The trees were just too densely placed for her to even stretch a single wing. So she was forced to rely on her speed and footwork as she trailed after the horse and it's rider. In her defense she was doing quite well, weaving and leaping over obstacles with a kind of serene grace one expected of a reptile; wings curled tightly against her body so as not to catch unfavorably on and outcropping branches. 'Closer, closer.' The cavalier's consistent gallop even gave her a sense of pride at her stealth. Not once had he looked back to see the blue dragon pursuing him, instead she noticed him chancing looks toward the gaps in the tree canopies above. Assuming if she was indeed chasing him it would be via air.
It was when Tsan'lo and Cassius' scents became more prominent that she worked her body further. In her defense it was pretty fast damn horse. When a particularly prominent clearing - barren of large trees - reached her; she pounced. Her jaw managed to clamp down on the horse's flank, dagger-sharp teeth making clean punctures. Esmer did feel a tad guilty at causing the beast so much pain but in fairness, it was it or them. The horse seemingly stopped in place only to be pulled back toward the dragon, the sudden jolt meaning it's rider had quite literally flown forward from his saddle and disappearing through the underbrush. Coincidentally at the feet of a certain pair.
