It started out innocently enough. Today was Valeria's day off, and a friend approached her saying it was an emergency. He had some ingredients that he that he needed for something he was planning to cook, but something had just come up that required him to leave for a few hours. Apparently, he wouldn't have enough time to buy everything and cook the food, so he was understandably stuck. Were it not for the fact that he needed these things by the end of the day, he'd simply do the shopping later. So instead, he had no choice but to ask someone to get them for him.
So why did Valeria look like she wanted to choke someone? Because he handed her a rather long list of somewhat exotic ingredients, then took off without another word. Aside the fact that Valeria had never even heard of half the things on this list, there was also the minor issue that she doesn't know how to read. She knew some basic words. But that alone wasn't enough to get her through this. She recognized the word "milk", but the item on the list was goat milk, and she wasn't familiar with the first word. She tried asking someone to read the list for her, but all they did was laugh at the fact that she was illiterate. Real charming.
Thus, here she was. After a bit more asking around, she found a market that apparently had all of the items she was looking for, but she still had no idea what she was looking for, and she was already sick of getting laughed at for not being able to read. With no other options, she tried using what very little she knew about how to read to try and figure out what the items on the list were. "...okay...let's see...d...duu...ck...duck?...I think that's what that says...but...what's this other word?...li...crap, I forget what sound that letter makes..." Welp, so much for that. Not even two words in, and she was already completely stumped. Maybe she really should swallow her pride and ask someone else. As much as she hated this, she still didn't want to let her friend down.
It would take a miracle to convince her not to try and murder said friend in his sleep, but that was a bridge she'd cross when she came to it. For now, she just wanted to get this over with before the urge to break everything within her line of sight became even stronger than it already was.
