BIO
Ascher is the first son and eldest child of Plegia's late king. Naturally, he was groomed by a variety of personal tutors in order to secure his position as first heir to the throne. To their chagrin, the prince had a penchant for slipping out of lessons and wandering the streets of the capital in disguise. But to say that he did not understand the value of the learning sessions wasn't correct; he just felt that understanding the inner workings of Plegia were just as important.
What wasn't part of the plan had been his younger sister, quiet and unambitious Maeve, challenging his right to the throne. Still, he had preferred to quietly go under the radar and decided not to fight the usurpation. The last thing he wanted to do was stir up conflict even after she'd publicly announced he was some horrible person in cahoots with the Grimleal. While it did raise some question marks about why the mostly unambitious prince had turned traitor, no one was about to question the words of their new queen.
He's kind of annoyed about that, but he does appreciate the fact that she didn't add exile on top of that. Still, he figured it'd be best to leave Plegia and go under the radar as opposed to being used, somewhere down the line, as a puppet leader for any resistance group that might be unsatisfied with Maeve's rule. Instead, he's taken it in stride and used it as an opportunity to do something that being prince didn't allow him before: travel. A lot.
That doesn't necessarily mean Ascher is annoyed that he's had something that was his taken away, and it kind of sucks to be wrongly labeled as Grimleal.
OTHER
He doesn't resent his sister and he's found a new niche for himself, but he's still pretty annoyed about the whole traitor thing. Still, Ascher's always known that Maeve is ardently against the Grimleal, though that doesn't change the fact that the coup came out of the blue to him.
Ascher's shares a mother with Maeve, making him also half-Ylissean. They can trace their lineage back to the Exalt, and while most would find that pretty cool, Ascher doesn't actually give it much thought.
Despite the fact that he will try to convince people he doesn't want much to do with Plegia, Ascher has a very close eye on the kingdom. Incompetence irritates him, and at the very first sign of the new monarch beginning to fail, nothing is stopping him from stepping back in. He'd rather Plegia didn't fall into anarchy or the hands of someone outside of the royal family.
He's not ambitious enough to become an anonymous foot soldier in the civil war as part of the Plegian army before trying to reclaim the throne, but maybe if he was bored enough something may arise from it. Maybe.
