BIO
Born to pain, born to blood, born in a world that demanded both, Yu'rei was a screaming, painful birth for his mother Yu'lai. The boy was born to a family that had experienced multiple stillbirths before. His mother's poor health was likely the cause for that unfortunate fact. Yu'rei however was born strong, and with a vigorous set of lungs. He screamed his head off as he came into the world though his mother's own screams drowned out her newly born son's. It was the beginning of her family away from the prying eyes of her former family. Yu'lai had fled from Chon'sen, her home, years ago in order to escape the burden of nobility. While not part of the main ruling family her's was one of the houses under their protection and had become major nobles by proxy of the fact. Despite running away from it all she couldn't help her heart. She fell for a Ylissian nobleman and warrior who captured her heart by beating her in an honorable duel. The man, who died in battle shortly after Yu'rei had been conceived, passed his exalted blood on to his son. His mother moved on after her lover's death and traveled to the land of Ferox where she settled down and gave birth to Yu'rei.
Yu'rei grew up in a meager house in the northern most part of Feroxi. In this land the strong preyed on the weak, that was how it was in Ferox. Fortunately his mother was a swordmaster of such incredible skill that her name had long since spread far and wide. Not only did she train him to wield a weapon the moment his tiny fists could but he possessed the inborn fighting spirit of his chon'sen heritage. These tools ensured that no one, not even the adults who would normally see him as easy pickings, walked away from a fight unscathed. He made his mother proud when he brought home his first battle trophy at age four. The severed ear of a bully who had tried to pick on him. Yu'rei had gotten his first real taste of battle and as he grew he would only taste more.
He often would surprise his mother at how cagey, willy, and fierce an opponent he was. Even by the age of six he could hold his own against her to the point she often had to resort to going for seriously injuring him to compare. While some of it could be explained by her body no longer keeping up with her as her illness advanced, there was some of it that could genuinely be attributed to the boy's killer instincts. He made her proud as a mother. He would grow to be a fine warrior. She was looking forward to seeing that one day but tragically it was not to be. The machinations of the leader of a local group of bandits had caused Yu'rei's mom to run afoul of the iron like lady. She had been going on a moonlit walk with her son when they had caught the bandit leader and her men capturing a wandering group of travelers. Naturally she questioned what was going on. The Bandit leader had told her to keep her mouth shut and, of course, being who she was, Yu'lai mother wouldn't stand for that. This woman was hurting innocents. The two got into a fight and, at the end of it, Yu'rei watched the woman slay his mother. She then turned her blade on him. It would have been an ignoble end for such a promising young warrior but the woman had failed to confirm her kill. That oversight would lead to her undoing years later.
Yu'rei woke from his pain induced coma to find that he was in a comfy bed. His wounds had almost healed over and he was in an unfamiliar place. The ruckus his mother's fight had made had alerted the traveling caravan of the esteemed eastern khan Sakalam. They had taken the wounded boy in instead of letting him die. Apparently the woman had seen promise in the young boy who died not die from his injuries. Whether it was divine providence or fate Yu'rei now was in the debt to someone. His mother always taught him to pay back is debts. He owed the bandit leader something too. As he was though that was a debt he could not repay yet. So he waited, he healed up, and he trained under the khan. She had been right to take him in. He was strong, he was fast, and he wily. She watched the boy allow his opponent to stab him in the eye and chest once just to force them in close and split them from ear to groin. His strength turned him from the injured boy she found into the young man she'd come to make her champion.
When he was strong enough he and a detachment of the khan's men and women found the bandits and paid back the now ten year old debt. The woman had grown frail. Her bandit clan had all but diminished. There was no glory to be had in slaying her but blood demanded blood and he took her head all the same. That was how things had to be. Despite the feeling he had slaying such a weakened opponent being a terrible one it was eclipsed by the pride he took when, after a particularly brutal fight, Sakalam deemed him worthy enough of being her champion.
