"Yes, I'll have that." "And you, sir?"
Shaken out of his stupor by the waiter, Etienne shifted slightly in his seat. If he was uncomfortable with the arrangement, he didn't show it. His client's eyes fell on him, and he was forced to make a decision almost at once. This wasn't a job he could afford to screw up. He was basically being paid to eat -- with some person who couldn't eat alone at a tavern for an undisclosed reason.
It wasn't that Etienne hadn't insisted on knowing what it was that made his client attract unwanted attention. He glanced across his table, at a lady who was eating a particularly small meal.
"I'll have what that lady is eating," said Etienne. A simple meal of bread and gravy would suffice. He had to keep an eye out for unsavory people, after all.

Jojo Kaguya Etienne | Exhaustion | 201/201
Jojo entered the tavern with some ease, her feet sore from travel while clothed in white gown wear. The pants form fitting for her with the same for the top she wore while having bell-bottomed sleeves. However, the sword she held that adorned her hip was that of Iron make and was rather well pronounced in its black sheath. Her body moving to sit down at an empty table, the small dabs of red lining blood along her white top that she removed was mainly that of a jacket stained in blood. Under it was a black tank top.
Jojo’s body easing into the seat as she only ordered for a water, her eyes looking upwards as she was beat, her body exhausted as she traveled many distances. To which it seemed her travels were never without insult to such a thing as that when she listened to all the banter and chatter inside this place; the scraping of dishes, the footsteps, the movement of cards at some tables. All these actions led to her listening and learning the surroundings as needed yet she felt homesick slightly, missing her family that was in the far reaches of the East Ferox regions.

While he kept simple conversation with his client, Etienne also had his eye on the entrance to keep track of new entrants and people who were leaving the tavern. It wasn't easy to juggle several tasks at once, and he had, on more than one occasion, ask his client to repeat what was said. He could almost sense the annoyance, but -- he would just have to buck up and do better.
A girl who had just entered piqued Etienne's attention, but as soon as he noticed her physical appearance, he relaxed. It was someone from the Knights; he had once went on a mission of sorts with her. Despite that, the blood was slightly suspicious; indeed, the tavern staff were casting glances at her, though none of them were conspicuously avoiding her.
His client stiffened at the sight of blood, convinced that something was afoot.
"Who's that?" "An acquaintance." "Are you ... out to get me?" There was surprise in that tone, maybe even anger from the lilt Etienne picked up.
"No," Etienne's voice was quiet, but firm.
A plate of bread and gravy landed on their table unceremoniously, and his client jumped in surprise.
"I nearly jumped out of my skin!"
Thank god you didn't, thought Etienne -- though it amused him to imagine a person, sans skin, sitting opposite him.
"Care to join us?" he asked, extending the offer to the female.

Jojo Kaguya @etienne | Exhaustion | 316/517
Jojo moved with ease through the tavern area, her eyes looking about when motioning her body enough to enjoy the drink that had arrived. She had received quite a few looks from her outfit and to say the least, it was not troubling as the smell it exuded. Granted she did indeed need a shower but that was due to the few small bouts out of town she had with needing to protect herself. The sword she carried was unique to her own and the bloodstained outfit could always use a better return but in a tavern, it surprised her still to have as many looks as she did.
The number of looks proved to her that this tavern was a place that held quite a reputation of being fighting free and yet she merely took for granted the hospitality any one place can give her. There was talk she noticed though, between a familiar individual and another unfamiliar person. Jumping out of skin had been what caught her attention before someone familiar asked to have her join them. It was quite the unique opportunity and she did not wish to pass the offer of free company up, especially with missions being as scarce as they are.
“Well if it isn’t Etienne, what a pleasure,” Her voices akin to kindness as she moved to join them, having recalled the name from the actual mission they were a part of currently. Her body shifting as she moved to sit at the table with them, not closer to either one but a neutral distance as she set her glass of drink down and looked at the two, “So, which of you were hoping to jump out of your skin?” She wanted to play on that, especially since it was one way to gauge personality and reaction of anyone around her while taking a small drink from her water.

A pleasure? Coincidence, more like -- and one that he wished to avoid if possible. Etienne's practised smile slipped onto his face as Jojo took a seat at their table. His client shifted a little closer to him -- as expected, but Etienne didn't do much in response.
"You misunderstand," he said, dipping his bread in gravy. His client glanced his way, but remained calmly seated. A small fidget or two wouldn't be detrimental to their current situation, Etienne felt, and let the client be. He lifted the food to his mouth and took a bite, gaze sweeping the tavern once again. "It's called a figure of speech," said Etienne.
His client had seemed remarkably calm until Etienne realized that he was simply too stunned to say anything. Naturally, the pegasus knight hadn't intended to invite Jojo to their table, and it wasn't a surprise that his client had thought the same. But it went without saying that a certain degree of awkwardness - not to mention suspicion - remained in a situation where two people lunched at a busy tavern.

Jojo Kaguya @etienne | Questions | 302/819
Jojo would merely smiled, her eyes keen to looking at him as she was told of the misunderstanding and even though it was a dismal one, she still held a small pretext of liking the idea of shaving an individual from their skin. It was a dark representation yet she would probably only do something like that in the future when all that was left for the poor foolish being is to rot and die where they stood. That of course was something for the future and Jojo would not institute it to be a part of the present day at this time.
However, she did hold a small piece of her being in delightfully enjoying the function of how a small being can disembark and falter to the dismal depths of hell itself. She however looked upon the client curiously, her eyes looking him up and down with some intriguing ideas. Her smile only etched itself that much more when similarly looking upon them as she waved to a server, requesting a similarly unique meal of merely corn in beef broth. She had unique tastes, and that was something she always enjoyed making a similarly known fact in this world.
Taking a drink of her water, she smiled and looked at the two and watched them curiously. “So, by chance what were you two discussing before I arrived?” She of course noticed the similarly stunned expression on the man she did not know, and as it so happened she had stunned many of the building and only knew that she similarly needed to get her clothing changed and cleaned sometime soon. Thinking to herself, “Maybe there is a cleaning place somewhere nearby, if not I can always just find a river for such things, those normally work out just as well.”

Two men and a woman sitting at a table drew significantly less attention than two lunching man, and Etienne was happy to see that his invitation had worked in their favour. At the same time, Jojo's words posed a different problem of their own. He had no wish to entertain her with more conversation, but client wasn't going to -- it fell unto his shoulders to keep the exchange going. Trying to think of an appropriate answer was difficult, however.
Etienne raised an eyebrow, and kept his voice devoid of emotion as he formed his reply. "Nothing much," said he, "What of it?" He was careful to pick less antagonizing words -- they were acquaintances, after all. Even though it displeased him to have to explain further, he still did.
"We were just having lunch." "We -- yes."
His client had faltered, but it mattered little. Etienne found himself looking forward to the moment they stepped out of the bustling tavern. Once they had finished their meals, they could go their separate ways until his services were required again.

Jojo Kaguya @etienne | Questions | 260/1,079
Jojo only giggles, having gotten her meal now, scooping up some in the spoon and eating as she did, her eyes witnessed both of them. Jojo knew something was up when the unknown face hesitated to agree with the friend. Jojo knew little as per the perks of whatever job she could take. However, she knew something was going on here, and her eyes only glistened at the two of them. “Alright, well if you don’t wish to tell me the truth it is up to you. However, if possible I would like in on whatever you do have in mind.” Her voice was quite affirmative, a stationary ideal inside and out as one could say. Jojo was one who never really wore emotions on her sleeve so to speak, yet she did happen to not absentmindedly make mistakes where needed. Everything was a calculation, had to be after all and that was all it was.
So with such in mind, she merely ate the broth and smiled, wondering if she would be filled in on any special details or if not. It was just a bit of fun to have after all, and if she was not privy to such details it was nothing too big, it was just details to a possible job or just about anything else but Jojo had a gut feeling it could be a job and it was something that she could most definitely enjoy. That was just something to think about on her end and theirs if they wished to share after all.
