POSITIVES
Kaen was known as a loyal and dutiful squire, taking his role as servant without hesitation. He has a quick-thinking mind, able to keep himself calm during stressful situations. While his appearance is lean and young, he has a hardy constitution, very rarely falling ill or taking a sick day. He has a natural affinity with beasts and animals, which makes him excel at mounted combat and caring for mounts in general. He follows a chivalrous code of conduct almost with religious zeal, encouraging honor, dignity, education and, when absolutely necessary, self-sacrifice. His cooking ability is superb, while not visually pleasing it is surprisingly tasteful, despite his lack of training in the field.
NEGATIVES
He judges people harshly and has mostly a black & white morality, believing victory through betrayal, backstabbing and trickery is never worth it. While he avoids needless bloodshed, he secretly enjoys fighting and yearns for glory, often making him act riskily during combat and rarely declining a duel. While patient, he is not the forgiving type, once his favor is lost, it may be lost forever. He will follow orders from a superior or a noble, however irrational they may sound, even if it leads him into danger. Kaen's wyvern is a stubborn and ferocious beast, it will not listen to any command other than it's rider's. Not even from other Wyvern Riders unless they've earned the beast's loyalty. Kaen has no artistic skill and while almost unheard of, his dancing is abhorrent.
BIO
Kaen was born to a noble house of Ylisse, sadly not in the conventional manner. His father, Baron Alric of Themis had an affair with one of his servants. Rumors between the wives of the many nobles in Themis debate between the woman being a peasant housekeeper or a pegasus knight in service to the lord, whatever the truth, the woman's name and identity are unknown. To prevent a public scandal, the Baron did not declare the child his, preventing any form of succession issues when his legitimate son, who was born 2 years later, would be declared his heir.
Nonetheless, Kaen was given a good life, the Baron's watchful eye was on him since he could walk. He was raised in a monastery to Naga, until he was of age to make his own decisions. The Baron visited the young lad every so often, not as a parental figure, but as a noble interested in the "orphan's" development. With the Baron's influence, Kaen had access to good teachers and learned how to wield a weapon, don armor, and ride a horse. His affinity for combat and repay the Baron's kindness were incentive enough to push himself to his very limits. He would not be a simple city guard, he yearned for glory, and he aimed high. A simple horse and a lance were not enough for him. He was confident he could be much more.
When he was 18, he asked for the Baron's help once more. He took to the road, headed north-east to the fabled wyvern valley. Wyverns were ferocious creatures, they said amongst the Halidom that it took a fearless rider to tame such a creature. Kaen succeeded, omitting details of how he brought the largest wyvern he could find to his service. It was a large, red-scaled wyvern with wings larger than a horse and a deafening roar. Rumors said Kaen fought the beast to a standstill for 3 days. Others said he stared down every single one in the valley until he could find one that would stare back. Nobody knew the boring truth, of him fighting off a band of hunters looking for the largest trophy, or how he mended the old wyvern's wing so it could fly again. It took kindness, not might to earn the veteran wyvern's trust. Kaen named it Fenris, fitting for the unruly beast he had befriended.
The Baron grew proud every time he heard of the young man's achievements, this pride turned into guilt with the passing of time. The boy was happy, indeed, yet the feeling of him denying him the truth ate him from the inside. The baron confessed everything to Kaen on his deathbed, with nobody else to hear him out. Not even his other son, Kaen's half-brother. He apologized to the fledgling knight for many things, but it was the closure he needed before he passed away.
Kaen took the news with a gentle smile, he was relieved nothing was forced on him. He was not a noble, or a leader. He yearned to follow those with true claims to lead. There was no Exalt, but he would nonetheless protect those around him. With an axe in one hand and Fenris' reins on the other, he departed to search for his own path, protecting the weak and slaying the evil that claws at his country on the way.
OTHER
Any minor noble may be able to recognize the knightling for his deeds. Obviously the aristocracy of Themis is a prime example of this. Also, Kaen is left-handed.
