BIO
• The bastard child and prodigal daughter of a Plegian Great House nobleman and one of his scullery maids, Katarina had an odd sort of childhood. Raised out of wedlock and in secret, Katarina never did know who her father was, no matter how many times she asked her mother. Apparently however, the man still cared enough to send them money to live off of. The young plegian girl grew up resenting the father she did not know and eventually lost all interest in finding out just who the mystery man was. It was only when her mother was on her death bed due to illness when Katarina was 13 that she would learn of her father's identity at last.
• Now aware of the man's identity, Katarina pursued what her mother had said, the old feelings of resentment rising up again. When finally she was able to confront the man, she let loose all of the vitriol and sorrow that had filled her when the young woman thought of her missing father. Humbled by the news of his former lover's death and the sight of his bastard child now grown and pouring out her heart before him, the nobleman felt a pang of guilt and his conscious spoke up. Adopting his bastard daughter properly, the nobleman taught her of his house and the way it operated. A merchant by trade, he made his living and fortunes upon the coin of others. Intrigued by her newfound place in life, Katarina quickly began to adopt to the life of a merchant.
• She traveled about hither and thither, acquiring many different goods through a variety of means and doing her best to sell them tounfortunate saps wonderful customers. She took to traveling abroad with her House's merchant marines and began to build up her own social network of suppliers and buyers. Always looking to expand the market audience, Katarina began to trade in many different goods at different intervals and invested in many different business opportunities. Eventually Katarina struck out entirely on her own, accepting no assistance from her father or ever using the name of House Castellia. Katarina was determined to be a self-made woman that found her way to riches not because of who she knew or was born to, but out of merit in her own pursuits.
• For the longest time Katarina had focused on buying and selling alot of domestic goods. From things as simple as clothing to bejeweled horse brushes and carved figurines, there seemed to be little that Katarina did not trade in. Though perhaps not as grand as other suppliers, the fledgling merchant also had a hand in the spice trade after acquiring the ownership of a shipping company. Sadly, with the destruction of all ships around the Ylissean continent by Grima, this business venture has promptly dried up and Katarina promptly disposed of the inert company. While she would like to open up that door again, it is quite firmly sealed shut with the lack of ships available to anyone but the Grimleal and they do not seem keen on selling the vessels.
• Eventually there were rumbles of war from all about the continent after the destruction of seafaring vessels and the dramatic return of Grima. Seeing a rather obvious opportunity open before her eyes, Katarina has taken measures to enter the war economy. Selling arms and armor to any and all, Katarina has very little care whom is buying so long as what she is selling is not turned against herself. To this end, Ferox has proven the best of all places to engage in this new business venture and she enjoys the benefits of the rising Merchant's Guild that stretches it's spider web across the vast north. While she maintains business dealings in Ferox, the true focus of her business has been in her home nation of Plegia. Supplying for both the Crown and the Church, the feuding factions had proven a lucrative source of income, enough to keep her employs well paid and producing the materials of war that drive her newest points of business. At the end of the day though, Katarina finds the war economy detestable, even if it is quite lucrative and still deals in exotic goods as her primary business.
OTHER
• Primarily focuses on pushing exotic goods that she has stocked up, a rare commodity since Grima's return.
• Katarina has an older half-brother that she is on strained terms with due to her nature as a bastard child. She also has a younger half-sister that she is on good terms with and tends to spoil due to still being a child.
• Not at all interested in romance. The only way she possibly could be is if money could become a living person.
• An avid reader, her favorite novels are (perhaps ironically) romances. Katarina's small collection of favored books she's amassed over the years is one of the few things she doesn't sell.
• Favorite Drink: Chon'sin Tea
