BIO
• The line of succession in Valm got quite messy after the death of Walhart The Conqueror. Their emperor had left no heir and Walhart was himself the very last of his bloodline. With their lord's death, the Empire of Valm was thrown into a state of chaos and anarchy, with Chon'sin and Rosanne easily breaking away into their own individual nations once more. Now Valm was an "Empire" in name only and had practically become a vassal to the ones it called vassals before. With urgency, many new candidates for the throne began to rise. And slowly but surely, something would happen to almost each and everyone of them over time. Assassinations, illnesses, accidents, or total disappearances became common. It didn't matter how, but it seemed as if Imperial Valm was destined to fall further still.
• Eventually one of the candidates managed to fend off assassins and press forward, set to claim the throne. This was the charismatic and determined Katyusha. Well learned and cunning in fashions that would befit someone of much older age, Katyusha managed to outwit her would-be killers and get so far as being named the heir-apparent for the Throne of Valm before things would turn sour. In secret, a conspiracy began to form and though Katyusha was a smart woman, she was not infallible. The conspiracy of nobles plotted to frame the rising star of Valm for high treason and implications in the assassination of other nobility. The plan, unfortunately for their victim, went off without a hitch. Katyusha was brought before the High Court and found guilty of all the charges brought against her, receiving a sentence of death. In one month, the now former heir-apparent would be hanging high from a rope for crimes against Valm that she did not commit.
• In prison, Katyusha had time to think. She had time to puzzle out what had just happened. And more than that, she had time to form a plan. The Valmese woman would not roll over and die for the conspirators. Instead she waited, planned, and figured out what she would do. On the day of her execution, a Priest of Naga came to pray for mercy from the great deity when her soul was free of the mortal coil. She received a final meal, much nicer than the rest of the food she'd eaten while imprisoned. And then she was brought out of her cell and to the city square of the capitol where a grand gallows was constructed for the death of a vile traitor. She was placed upon the trapdoor and before the noose was lowered, she was asked one question. "Do you have any last words?" Katyusha smiled and spoke in a loud and booming voice, "You may curse my name, but in the end the traitors are still amongst you. The vipers lurk among you, the flowers wilt, and the blades remain as sharp as they were in revolt. Valm will never have a leader."
• Her words spoken, the crowd that had gathered to watch her execution was a mix of confusion for those that seemed to believe her words and condemnation from those that did not. And as the noose was lowered, Katyusha suddenly spun and attacked her executioner, a call for guards ringing aloud in the square. The crowd turned frightful and backed away from the spectacle, leaving Katyusha and the guards that answered the cry to what would happen next. Taking the would-be executioner hostage, she used him as a human shield before suddenly leaping from the gallows and landing upon the back of a horse that one of the guardsmen had rode in on. Gaining control, she rode the beast hard far and away from the city with the guards in pursuit. Katyusha rode for the woods, escaping into the thick forest and sending her horse rushing off in a different direction to distract the guardsmen. The falsely accused convict was now free once more, but she knew that she could no longer remain in Valm. Sneaking aboard a merchant vessel one misty evening, Katyusha managed to get off of the Valmese continent and landed on the Ylissean continent instead.
• After escaping to the continent of Ylisse, many events would occur in the grand scheme of things. The resurrection of Grima, the destruction of all vessels in his returning rage, and a great shift of political climates in many different environments that led to growing chaos everywhere. For her part, Katyusha decided to head toward Plegia, enlisting as a soldier among the Crown's forces. Whenever someone looked at the cuffs with broken chains, the Valmese woman would be quick to explain a history of slavery and daring escape. Maintaining the lie well, none know who Katyusha actually is. However, she is paranoid of potential assassins from Valm coming to finish the job one day. "The dead can't testify," after all.
