Oh. O-oh.
Nasha could tell, from Eirlys's reaction, that Thabes had been an important place to her. And that was when it hit her. The significance of the ancient ruin. It had been a city of Divine Dragons, where Naga had allegedly died during Anri's time. Her father had mentioned visiting it, and seeing it already falling to ruin shortly after her grandfather's death. Then, by the time he was resurrected, even the Divine Dragons that had once lived there were few and far between.
They were a dying race. Taking human form and mixing with the humans who now dominated the land had lengthened what time they had left, but that was little more than using healing magic on someone already mortally wounded. They had only delayed the inevitable. Nascha...did not want to see that happen. Maybe there could still be something done about it, eventually. If the Shepherds succeeded in defeating Grima, and lived to tell about it, they would have a lot of influence in the post-catastrophe world. Maybe then, she could rebuild the Dolhr Empire. A Dolhr Empire that didn't enslave humanity, and instead lived alongside them.
Perhaps it was wishful thinking. Leading the Shepherds was already more than Nascha had ever wanted to do, and surviving that final battle was ever an unlikely prospect. But, it was a thought. What to say to Eirlys, though? Maybe there wasn't anything to say. Maybe actions would serve better, here. So Nascha stood up and walked over to the Divine Dragon, then slid her arms around her and held her close. She could hardly believe she was doing such a thing, with the arms length or more distance she usually kept between herself and others. But in that moment, it seemed like the only right action.
