BIO
• Ptolemy was a former servant to an Ylissean noble. The young master who was around his age became his closest friend. When the young master's father was caught in adultery, he testified against his own father and became master of the household. Ptolemy was granted his freedom. He studied and trained, catching up to the years he was but an ignorant servant.
• At the age of 27, Ptolemy was a full-fledged Ylissean knight. The road to knighthood had been rough as his status as a former servant became a source of ridicule. He despised most of his fellow knights and didn't like the prospect of protecting the citizenry either. He'd gained an arrogant attitude; but years in service as a knight who people looked up to was slowly moulded him into that kind of image. He hated having to waste his time escorting a very slow old man to the next town but having him try to reach his neck to give him a thankful hug was not so bad. Even though the thought of it was disgusting.
• A noble fell in love with this dashing knight and she was beautiful enough to make Ptolemy pursue this relationship. They married when he was thirty and had a son. Although they loved each other for the first few years of their marriage, Ptolemy began to be unable to stand her. He ignored her several times, lost his patience, and spent weeks without seeing her. She was just as unhappy about him. "You're a fake. You tricked me into thinking you're that kind of good person, that kind of man who would dedicate his life into making his woman happy." Furious, Ptolemy smacked her, thrashed the house, and left. He did not hear news of her and their son for years to come, not even news of his son being ran over by horses and dying.
• At 34, he had a second wife. She was someone he liked better, someone who didn't just fall head over heels for a knight in shining armour. She wasn't a noblewoman, not as educated as him, but she had less expectations of Ptolemy. He felt more at ease in her presence, in their house of wood, and she made fun of the side of Ptolemy that rolled his eyes behind the nobility and wrote dark poetry about life. They were content with each other. They never had any children out of his wife's request, having lost her own and still grieving about it.
• Ptolemy and his wife decided to join the Knights of Cydonia, feeling that times were getting too dangerous if they sat and did nothing. Ptolemy was very much against at the idea of his wife coming as she had no skills in combat and would only be serving as cook and maid. When asked if he were ashamed by this, it silenced Ptolemy and he then relented for her to come along. Their husband-and-wife relationship is not a well-known fact. Neither of them seem to advertise about it.
OTHER
Ptolemy seems like he is very bad-tempered but he can be very pleasant when people are kind to him. He strives to meet the role of the knight because people appreciate him for it. When he has his armour and lance, he remembers the good there is in being in this position.
