BIO
• Lyrica was born to a pair of minor Ylissean nobles, ones so far removed that their hopes for becoming exalt would involve the death of nearly every other member of nobility before they could be considered. She was the youngest of 6 children, having 4 brothers. Desiring more power and prestige for themselves, Lyrica's parents did their best to push their sons into paths where they could win advancement, or to marry them off to more powerful and successful families. Lyrica was often viewed as an afterthought, and before she'd even reached her sixth birthday, her eldest sister Elena - the second eldest of the family's children - ran away from home, after fighting with her parents and refusing to accept to be used like trade goods.
• Because of that, Lyrica grew up, spending most of her time alone and studying in the library of her house. There wasn't much there, and the local tutor from the nearby village wasn't the greatest, but she had an education. Her brothers often skipped out on lessons with the tutor to adventure down by the stream or practice their fighting skills in the forest. Only Riordan - her oldest brother - focused on his studies as well, but the age difference between them was too far. Riordan was already working in the army when her schooling began. Very rarely was she allowed out of the house to play with other children her age, and her brothers were always 'too busy' to play with their 'annoying little sister.'
• A traveling carnival visited the village she lived in, and skipping her lessons that day, she watched the animals, and the acts with increasing fascination. She'd never seen those kinds of things before in person, only in books. What she found most impressive was the archer, who's arrows plucked fruit thrown out of the sky with unerring accuracy. She knew she couldn't fight with spear or sword like her brothers, she was just too small and too delicate to compete. When Riordan returned she begged him - the most reasonable of her siblings - to help her learn. He was reluctantly persuaded, and only agreed to get her a bow under the condition that she only practice it when she didn't have lessons or chores, and that she keep it from her parents. Lyrica readily agreed.
• Soon Lyrica began to practice archery in the woods. She managed to keep it a secret for as long as possible, practicing and improving through repetition over the course of years. Of course, coming close to being a full adult, her parents began to look for places where she could be married off. Unlike her elder sister, Lyrica didn't have the same level of will-power to strike out on her own. Where would she go anyways? She barely knew the village or the roads in the woods. She wouldn't make it two weeks out there without help, and she certainly would get none from her family if she did so. She remained quiet, though she became even more withdrawn if such a thing was possible, and focused even more attention on her archery, which gave her peace of mind.
• She finally did leave her home after two major events happened, almost on top of each other. The first was a letter, addressed from from her sister Elena who hadn't been heard from by any of the family for 12 years. There was little said in it, but Lyrica viewed it as hope she could see her sister again. The second event was the Knights of Cydonia, who came by and tried to ask for support. Even if it was from such 'backwater' nobles as her own family, every step they could take would help their cause. Naturally her parents refused, calling it a waste of time, but Lyrica waited until evening when the Knights were going to leave the village, and snuck out to join them. She may not be able to do anything on her own, but she earnestly believed in their cause, and earnestly believed that she might meet Elena once again if she traveled the world looking for her.
