BIO
• A long time ago in the Theocracy of Plegia, a little girl died alone and forgotten in a prison that offered no reprieve from the winter chill. There had been a famine. Times were difficult. A Grimleal sect had been forced to pick which children should survive that year, which children would be the most useful to their Lord Grima. That child had not been chosen. Amaryllis had been chosen, but not by the Grimleal. If the Grimleal had known, then maybe they wouldn't have let her live.
• The girl-prisoner had chosen to die rather than to be eaten by a wolf. Amaryllis never forgot that. Amaryllis becomes a hunter of wolves. The first wolf dies by the granary, begging for his life at her feet. It had been a luxury ignored. Time passes, and some sects of the Grimleal begin to understand that it is more practical to fear her bow than a wolf's fang.
• She's not perfect. No one who grew out of that kind of darkness would ever be. Eventually she tires of the hunt. She tires of running away. She tires of the chaos. Opportunity presents itself in the form of a corrupt Ylissean noble with more enemies than what he knows what to do with. That's when she adopts the name of a flower, washes herself of her Plegian accent, and convinces the man that he needs her skills. She only whispers the name of the dead girl to herself whenever she thinks that the world isn't listening. Only then can Amaryllis keep her safe.
• She's not a tactician by trade -- leading an army's not her style. What she does have is an impeccable memory and the willingness to exploit every circumstance in her favor. Tacticians study terrains and the weather. Amaryllis spends her days in the courts and trade routes that no honest merchant would touch. A motion here, a subtle planting of evidence there -- the world could be their battlefield, a standing peace treaty or not.
• She's definitely got an agenda privy to no one but herself. The challenge is understanding it before it's too late. Her loathing of the Grimleal is the only thing that can be ascertained by those who work closely with her. Everything else seems to be up in the air.
OTHER
Had Amaryllis loved the girl who had froze in that cell? It's a complicated question. One that she does not even have the answer to. A person can love a dream, a hope, a moment of irrationality. Those things do not make the outcome any less real. She is not a woman who deals in fantasies.
