BIO
• Nicolas is the Second Lieutenant of the Knight of Cydonia. He purposely remains that way as he finds the role of first and as such Commander Nascha a title that he is not prepared to take. He is exceptionally skilled in the art of the spear and provides detailed information on the Knight of Cydonia. He spends much time with the men, trying to instill a sense of purpose within the knights, much to their dismay.
• Nicolas was a noblemen within the Ylissian royalty, but he threw that away to go become a wandering mercenary in search of himself. In his youth, Nicolas was a rash young man, starting fights, inciting other noble houses. His behavior became increasingly erratic as time moved forward and finally he shamed his house and was banished. When this occured, Nicolas joined an outlaw band known as the Spears of Hell. They were a simple traveling band of thieves. He was not their leader but he was their best fighter. He never failed to prove himself with a stick in his hand. He defeated most of bounty hunters and soldiers that were sent forth to take care of the outlaws and heralded himself as an accomplished warrior. That is until he met A.
A was a mercenary of no small skill. While Nicolas on a quick operation, A decimated the outlaw band with precision. When Nicolas returned, finding most of his band destroyed, his leader dead, Nicolas was issued a formal challenge the mercenary. The two dueled for a full twelve hours straight and Nicolas was finally brought down to kneel before the better warrior. The man handled a spear like nothing Nicolas had ever seen. The mercenary bowed before his competitor and moved to leave. "Why not kill me?" A stopped and turned to him. "Naga says you still have purpose... Come. I shall show you a path that you will wish to travel.
• Following A, Nicolas learned much about the faith of Naga, the Divine Dragon. A taught him lessons and manners for the following decade, tempering Nicolas's youth into something sharper. He trained Nicolas in all things he could, the ways of man, Naga, the politics of the nations, and all throughout their travels, Nicolas only grew to respect his teacher and friend more. That was until they came to a small village resting on the outskirts of Ylisse. The village had been set upon by bandits weekly, raiding their stock of food. A had followed the raiders to the south, constantly seeking thieves and bandits to destroy. His wife had been taken by such men and as an act of atonement, he promised to rid the land of each and every one of them personally. Nicolas and he awaited the next attack and when it came, the two of them began a massacre that set fear in the bandits' hearts. Nicolas thought that they had saved the village at that point, but it was far from the truth. Their leader approached, wielding an axe and wearing no smirk of confidence. The man's face was cold, something Nicolas had only seen in A. A's face drained of color. "...Divine one forgive me... Nicolas. You must run." Nicolas refused, standing by his friend. "This is not a fight we will win. I had heard her voice... she told me to turn back... but now we are here. You must not die this day. You are needed elsewhere. Go!" A shoved him back as a swing of a massive axe came between them. "Adrian..." Nicolas could now see a patch over the man's eye.
"Your wife took my eye before she died. I thought that if I raided a few villages I would draw you out. I am glad to see that it did draw you out." Adrian parried a swing with the heft of his spear. "Nicolas... Naga will protect you. GO!" Nicolas now saw the fear in his friend's eyes. Nicolas took off running; A would escape. He would. There was no man who could best him. Not even this man. Nicolas turned back to watch as his friend would dodge and escape. He did not see what he wanted. What he saw was A take a blow to the side. Nicolas froze mid stride. Nicolas told himself not to turn back. Not to go to A's aid. Not to fight. But there was something within him that told him that he would not let this injustice stand. Ten years of instilling purpose within himself. Ten years of learning the true way of the spear. Ten years of friendship with the wizened tired man. Ten years of staring into that man's eyes... filled with pain but purpose. Nicolas turned back. He slid into the clearing where Adrian had fought the axeman. The axeman's boot now sat heavily upon his friend and the axeman still did not smile. "...I do not know if I believe in Naga or any god for that matter. I cannot claim that I do," he whispered in a soft prayer. "But I, Nicolas, apprentice to Master Adrian, swear this now. I will let no injustice stand. No longer will good men fall in the face of the wicked." He charged. The axeman turned surprised but not unprepared. He brought his great axe down but Nicolas dodged to the side, spearing the man's hamstring. "No longer will I wallow within my own selfish desires," he spoke a bit louder. The axeman backhanded Nicolas with the pommel of his weapon. It crushed his left eye, permanently destroying it, but Nicolas did not waver. "No longer..." Nicolas whispered charging once more. The axeman swung his axe once more, but Nicolas leapt into a dive. "NO LONGER WILL THE RIGHTEOUS PERISH. NOT WHILE MY SPEAR STANDS!" And with a spear buried within his head, the axeman crumbled.
• In his last moments, Adrian told Nicolas that he truly had never seen Naga. He only followed his heart. That Naga was only an excuse to give himself a sense of duty. Nicolas must find his own path in life. No man can show him his destiny. No god can grant him a righteous purpose. He must find that on his own. Nicolas buried his master without tear or complaint. He tried his best not to mourn his friend's death. That was something he was taught as well. Tears for the fallen are wasted. Be thankful that they gave their life for others. Be thankful that the fallen are at peace. And yet, even as the rain fell, Nicolas could not tell if they hid his own tears of pain and loss or if they cried for him. A few days later, on chance, a few recruiters of the Shepherds came to end the village's problems only to find that it had been resolved. Nicolas asked a few questions about who was in charge and what the Shepherds and asked to sign up. If there was ever a place for him to look for purpose, that would be it.
• For the man himself, Nicolas is often seen dallying with anyone deemed worthy of his time. Though his experiences have matured him, his dalliances with anyone, man or woman alike, never left. During his time with Adrian he had to be "persuaded" not to visit brothels, spend evenings with barmaids and advancing on young nobles. Nicolas is a man that sees pleasure as one of the greatest things about life. Do not take him for the fool however. He had spent time in court and knew the various signs of a person who is in it for the fun and who is about the business. As for the army, Nicolas is extremely serious. Though he devotes his time to pleasure off duty, he becomes extremely serious, even while displaying a calm demeanor. He is never late for drills, he runs his recruits ragged and apprentices ragged, and he is always serious when it comes to training. As such he is seen as a very strict instructor. However, he cares deeply for anyone under his command and although he may not be the strongest people person, he protects those under him with extreme passion. Nicolas is extremely strict and brutal when it comes to injustice. Punishment to him should equate to death in most if not all circumstances. Betrayal most of all will send the man into a tranquil vengeance. Few people can talk him out of such a state, and pity the fool that would try to stand between him and justice.
OTHER
After showing his skill the Nascha, leader of the Shepherds and becoming Second Lieutenant, Nicolas has spent most of his time doing training and recruitment. His youthful vigor tempered has made him much more thoughtful and reserved and he acts much more mature than he did in court, provided he is not near women. He tends to become a bit... overbearing in his flirtatious parades. He is excpetionally skilled spearfighting and is incredibly fast for one that wears the heavy equipment that comes with being a knight. He has a pet baby wyvern named Adria, named after his late master. He does not ride the thing as it is still too small to carry him he does train it in combat and it is often used for scouting.
