BIO
Brunhilde was born to a family of veteran Plegian knights and soldiers who took more pleasure in the battlefield wielding steel than entering the mystical field of magic. As expected, Brunhilde was given high expectations to become just like the rest of her family. As such she was prepared appropriately, conditioned in secret from the rest of society as with the rest of her family when they were younger in the past. This has, in her youth, made her somewhat stiff to talk to at first. She seemed almost distant from children of her age. But that changed in the heat of battle, where Brunhilde was merciless. Though she knew to hold and still her blade against a sparring partner, she was relentless in her technique. It was that relentless style that earned her ticket into the soldier company of the Plegian army. She never questioned the "why" or the "reason" behind the existence of an "army." She was conditioned to feel at home in a militaristic environment. She was one of the youngest recruits to be allowed into the army, and of course being a young girl at the time, many of her peers were skeptical of her capabilities. They were quickly proven wrong during training, drills and the occasional lecture.
Brunhilde's training and cultivation of her "burning rushdown," as she was wont to describe her style as, continued in secret, as she requested to make use of facilities available at the barracks and other areas for the soldiers in the wee hours of the night. Sometimes she was denied, depending on who was in charge at the time, in which case she simply decided to respect her superiors and back down. Eventually, Brunhilde met someone in the army around her age who would change her character completely. While she still retained her dangerous, reckless fighting style, she would grow to rein in her blind obedience and learn to think for herself. This person had seen how devoted Brunhilde was to becoming a fighting machine. To become respected, worthy of her family's name. It was so sad for them to see how hard she was trying, but they knew she wouldn't get as far as she potentially could if she showed more passion for her craft.
The two of them ended up becoming fast friends when Brunhilde discovered this fellow person was at the very least as strong or as capable as her, and initially wanted to befriend them for the explicit purpose of training with them and also trying to learn more from them through casual discourse. It was very stunted of course, with Brunhilde having little social skills at the time, but over time, Brunhilde realized that it was actually fun to talk about unimportant things - that training to be the best soldier was not the only pleasure in life, that sometimes, appreciating the sunset after the end of a long day in the field was just as good. They eventually got into a relationship, and Brunhilde started to smile more, she started to become more human. Just as Brunhilde had wanted to give the person a present thanking them for being... Her one and only real friend, they were sent on a mission far away from Plegia.
They never came back.
This incident shattered Brunhilde, who, upon learning that her only friend had disappeared, possibly forever, had shed tears for the first time in her life. From that point on, she vowed to dedicate her training not only for herself, but also for her closest and only friend, that she might be able to see them again at some point in the future. Inflamed with passion, her reckless technique became refined over time, her relentless strikes became harder to predict, they had become more creative, more fluid in fact, empowered by the lessons taught to her from her friend. Brunhilde, originally the Machine, became to be known informally by her fellow soldiers as the Sacred Flame, a lady who fought with such a burning passion with her eyes, a far cry from when she was a mere recruit. Very few know the real story behind that passion, but those who do respect Brunhilde all the more for her decision.
She quickly rose up the ranks by displaying immense amounts of skill from her training since a young age, and became a high-ranking soldier in the army. She looked towards the elite Royal Guard and decided that was not her cup of tea, though, since she would not be able to get any opportunities to get sent out to places where she might potentially find her close friend. As such, she has stuck to being a part of the basic military, instead trying to learn the whereabouts of that one person she has longed so much to see again. To embrace, and to talk with them.
The one person who truly made her feel human.
OTHER
She was given the name 'Brunhilde' with the hopes that she would become the strongest woman in her family, and at this point, it's safe to say that she hasn't disappointed. It's said that Brunhilde can strike her weapon so hard against armor that it can spark more dangerously than typical impacts and cause flames to start with it, which is what some people say the REAL reason behind her nickname originates from. When confronted about it, Brunhilde says that is a lie and that someone made it up because they were afraid of her. While she doesn't seem very approachable, she's actually not too bad of a person to talk to if you can get past her rather crude tongue. She can be eloquent when she needs to be but she's not beyond being a bit of a venomous mouther. In other words, she can be kind of bitchy.
